Passiflora loefgrenii, First Flower

Alameda, CA(Zone 9b)

Last fall I was given a rooted cutting by a friend . It may be the same plant that's growing in the Strybing Arboretum. This is the first flower to open just last week. I''s a great sight to see!

Isn't it a beauty! Mine bloomed once in early Spring. It was about to bloom again, but dropped its buds when I finally planted it in the ground. I like the coloring on yours better...less purple and more blue.

sunnyg, Thanks again. They may not be all that different. I've only seen the one bloom--others are coming--but some of the difference may be that one was shot in sunlight and the other in shade. Even if a bit different, I'd be happy with either clone. Yours does look quite vibrant.

I'm definitely interested in how future blooms look. I hope you'll post more photos as you continue to get blooms.

Mine is now planted in a spot which gets morning sun and afternoon shade, and I hope it develops more buds again shortly. It's putting out some new growth, so that's encouraging.

Congrats Allan! How large is the vine? I've got one on the way from Grassy Knolls.

Thanks all!

Mark, The plant seems like it will be fairly compact. The leaves are relatively small and it started flowering on less than 4 ft. It overwintered in temperatures down to about 30 degrees--and in a pot. I planted it in the ground about a month ago.
