Nurseries around San Marcos, TX

Grapeland, TX

Hubby and I will be going out to the san marcos/wimberly area in a couple of weeks. Are there any good nurseries in the area? I plant mostly perennials and roses...salvias. bee balms, coneflowers, etc. I know about wildseed farms....have been there several times. Does the ARE between san marcos and san antonio have lots of perennials? any other places I need to visit? thanks for any info.

Hill Country Gardens in New Braunfels is one of my favorites and about 18 miles south of San Marcos. I make a couple of trips each year to shop there. http://www.hillcountrygardens.com/ It seems extra hot and humid there in the summer, so I go when they open at 10:00 a.m. and take a bottle of water. The big greenhouse is fun to prowl through, but like a sauna.

thank you! I will put this on my list!

There is Paradise Palms which is right before the outlet malls. It is more of a landscaping place but has a few acres of plants. Up front are the natives and then fruit, citrus, shrubs, Cactus and desert plants. Very nice and locally owned.

Gardenville in San Marcos is kinda small but they have extremely knowledgeable staff. They will usually one or two things you might like in the greenhouse.

If you make it up to Buda, then try It's About Thyme. They will rock your world.

thank you! and we are staying in Buda as that is kind of centrally located to what we will be doing! and of course, then hubby can spend all the time he wants at the man outdoor store, lol. that is fine with me. he follows me in what I want to do so turnabout is fair play!

I loved It's about Thyme! we were only a couple of miles from there so that worked out fine. we spent quite awhile there just wandering around. Hill Country Gardens was a disappointment...but, i guess it was just too late in the season to go. not much to choose from and the big green house was virtually empty. maybe I can get there next spring!

Darn, I'm sorry Hill Country Gardens was not much. It's still too early in the year for them to be that low on plants, so I am worried about their business future. The only It's About Thyme that I know of is in Austin on Menchaca Rd, and it is wonderful. Where is the one in Buda?

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

Same place.

LOL I knew It's About Thyme was near Menchaca, but I never realized how close to Buda I was when I was there. It is one of my favorite plant places, and I always leave there with much more than I went for.

yes...same place...we stayed in buda so were very close to there. I guess more than a couple of miles...but not much, lol! I bought a few things but restrained myself as I don't have that much room right now to add anything to my existing beds and do not want to start a new one this late. I could have really let loose there though. I definitely want to go back next year and would like to go back to hill country gardens too. their annuals that they had left all looked about dead. I picked up a coneflower there and that was it.

If you go through Austin, you definitely have to go to The Great Outdoors and The Natural Gardener.

thank you! I will put those on my list for the fall or next spring!
