I collected some pollen and dried it. Now I want to freeze it till the brug I want to match it with produces a bloom. Can it go in a plastic seed packet, or does it need something special? I'm homebound so don't get out to stores. Plus, I don't know of any kind of store that sells hybridizing supplies. I sure would like to know how to save it. Helen
Pollen storage
Do you know of anyone who has diabetes and who uses test strips to check their glucose levels? The containers are ideal for storing pollen as they contain a built-in desiccant. You could also use a small pill vial and double bag it before putting it into the freezer.
Gee...thanks bettydee......I just happen to have some of those. I've kept them for seed storage...didn't know about the desiccant though. (Learn something new every day) The visiting nurse told me once not to leave the container open on the table...she didn.t say why..so I thought it was to keep germs or bugs out. Now I know. You sure are a fountain of information! We sure are lucky to have you.
Sincere thanks' Helen
