Ticks are crazy this year

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Pulled off 5 larger sized......is it lone star?? One I saw a full day ahead but thought it was a scratched mosquito bite with a wee scab...then it really started to really itch and when I scratched I saw it was "hinged" from side to side as I rubbed the area. Opps.... Should put on those glasses. Found another on the hip and two more on the same leg as the first. That was a few days ago...today ankle itching and sure enough...a tick... But this one was a tiny tiny tiny speck and so I think deer tick. NOW I THINK (FEEL THE CRAWLING) THAT THEY ARE EVERYWHERE......!!!! H e l p !! An invasion.

I always spray before yardwork, but both times I just stepped out to let the grand dog out. I wonder if the little bugger brought them in or if it was me that gave them a lift.

I've pulled off a few myself this year .. does seem like a bumper crop! I make it a point to check out the bod every night in the shower!

I always protect...but didn't think about walking the dog.

Majority tick larger but got nailed by thise microscopic teeeeny ones. Would need glasses in the shower....and they'd fog probably!!!

No kidding, I was thinking that myself. I've found more this year than in the 8 years prior, yuck!

Not much lyme in NC and so that makes me feel better.

Those little ones are the culprits for transmitting lyme disease. Other ticks carry it but don't seem to share.

At least with rocky mt spotted ----you sort of know it rather soon ----- and hopefully get it treated successfully. With lyme it can be years of wierd stuff and no diagnosis and far reaching and potentially disabling medical problems.

There was one on my face!!! ferwawdssakes! when I woke up the other morning. I guess when you lie down with dogs...

Don't think it was a deer tick though. I got a magnifying glass and googled it.

A co-worker of mine had a confirmed case of Lyme disease a couple of years ago, then I got it myself. Not funny stuff at all. Good thing I got the bullseye rash...not everyone does.

One of my son's had something called tick paralysis whe he was a child. The doctors thought he had meningitis and were about to admit him to the hospital when I ran my hand through his hair and found a huge tick. Thankfully it was not Rocky Mountain or Lyme. The paralysis slowly disappeared after the tick was removed.

Sorry you got that dreadful infection. Infection rate in NC is very low. Did you travel or do you remember the bite happening in NC?

Actually I'm sure it happened on a field trip with my students out to Clemmons State Forest here in Wake Co. I felt a persistent itch on the back of my knee. I didn't realize that it was a deer tick until a couple of days later when it got enough size to see it. I'd never had one of those before and would never have imagined how small they really are.
By the time the rash appeared, I was pretty sick and having a difficult time remembering key things...like which way to turn to drive out of the subdivision to get to work. Very scary. A couple of rounds of serious antibiotics finally knocked it out, but I'm very cautious about checking for them when I come in from the yard. I've had them on me since. They completely creep me out.
