Moving Pecan saplings, Need advice pls....

Victoria, TX(Zone 9a)

Hello All,
I need advice on how to move and transplant pecan saplings. I have them popping up everywhere. Guess the squirrels have been awfully busy. Most of the saplings are about 7 inches tall. They are smack in the middle of my flower beds and other undesired locations. I would like to relocate some and pot some up for trades. I also have more on the back property line near a chain link fence, these are much bigger, anywhere from a foot or so to several feet.

My mom gave me a sapling years ago, but a tornado ate it for dinner. Now that I have my own place, I am really trying to get it looking like a little paradise. Do the saplings need to be a certain size? Do they tolerate moving any time of year? Any soil recommendations for young trees? How about the young root systems? If I pot some up how long will they tolerate a container?
Sorry so many questions, but I really want to do this correctly. Thanks in advance. :)

I usually go out after a good rain with a pair of pliers, grab the the little tree with the pliers at soil level and pull, it usually comes out with the root intact.
Pot it up in a gallon pot and keep it moist and in the shade for a while until it gets over the shock.
It can stay in the pot for a year or two until you find a permanent place for it.

Wonderful... Thanks for answering my inquiry Josephine, Much appreciated!

The only sad part is no rain for 4 months, except one day last week for 45 whole minuets. That's ok... I'll just give them a good watering first before I pull the pliers out.

Be sure you water deep the roots are longer than the tops.
