I spent the past week at Big Bend National Park in West Texas. I saw a lot of birds and was able to identify most of them, but I am either totally baffled or not sure on some of them. I would really appreciate some help. When I got more than one shot, I picked the best and tried to combine them to save from having to open too many photos.
This is the first one - a very dark colored hawk. I would love for it to be a Common Black Hawk since you can see in the next post, I was very near a nest area. But, it looks a bit like the Zone-tailed Hawk which is much more common in the area.
CLOSED: Dark Hawk
Common Black Hawk is correct; note the long tertials on the wings, and the tail pattern.
