rooting brugs from a leaf

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

MMMMMM is there any report in history of a brug leaf being rooted... and how might this have been done...
yes... I've never heard of it... but having just bought a lovely brug from England... just your standard double bright pink variagated brug... it arrived as a stalk about 8" tall... in a rooting cup with a small bit of soil.. wrapped and nicely moist... about a dozen large thick fuzzy leaves... all floatng about ... very fresh... but none of them were attached to the stalk... I'm hopeful the stalk will put out some new leaves.. but I thought the leaves whch were so fresh... should be given a chance if possble...
I magne it to have happened in the last leg of the trip as the leaves were so fresh and unwilted... but it mght have been earler in customs... I rember someone saying they had sent some plants through.. removing all the leaves.. I guess without leaves attached it's no longer plant... or maybe it was somethng they sprayed on it to kill any possible hitchhickers...

This is what NC State University says about plant propagation by leaf:

Quoting:
Because leaf cuttings do not include an axillary bud, they can be used only for plants that are capable of forming adventitious buds.

I couldn't find any information on Brugmansia leaves and adventitious buds. There are several ways to make leaf cuttings. What could you lose by trying.

If anyone could do it, it would be you. I am looking forward to seeing how that 'stalk' turns out!

update:
well.. my leaves dried out too much... I really do need a cloning chamber.. but I believe I'll get an ice cream maker as my next toy.. one that freezes as well as churns.... I've always wanted to make an aeroponic chamber.. where a micro fine mist is produced through high pressure.. guess I should start one.. over a big bowl of madagascar vanlla cream..with raspberries.. so no leaves..
The stalk..rooted in a peat pellet.. oh I hate the peat pellets.. always too wet... but I'll not agravate it by digging it out right now... so.. the tip of the stalk seems a bit wilted.. and I don't want the wilt to spread down through the stalk... so I cut off the last inch.. which I'm trying to root on it's own.. and the lower part w/ roots.. is in front of some lghts.. awating new leaves.. before I relocate it from the
peat pellet..
We'll see..
