Mystery weed has small buds. Do these coreopsis have such tiny blossoms?

That mystery one almost looks like a Brazillian Verbena. You will know as soon as it blooms.

Mystery "weed" is a plains coreopsis.

I knew it was coreopsis based on over form but no idea which. I only saved 2 of them. I know B. verbena and its not allowed in my yard.

Awh...Cheryl...BV is a hit for butterflies and a host plant too! LOL! I know it is sooo tall and weird...I pulled it out the first year too. LOL! I do love it now.

I think its on the invasive species list or should be! It's actually a cool plant but I don't want to encourage it. It is growing wild all around the area I live.

Hmmm took me years to get these to growing enough where they would attract butterflies.

Are we talking about 2 different plants?

I am going to have a closer look at the plants growing in nearby fields to see which one it really is.

Yes we are talking two different plants Cheryl. Although others say the kind I have may be invasive, I just don't find it to be. It reseeds very little each year. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/141/

Just one more reason I should learn the botanical names! LOL!
