This cute little bird showed up in my backyard and seems domesticated. I enticed her into a cage, but I don't want to keep her there if she was meant to be free. I only wanted to keep her from being crow or hawk food. She seemed so friendly that I thought she must belong to someone and escaped. I'll post two pictures.

Maybe it escaped from a zoo or such?
Zebra Finch maybe. Get some Finch feed from local pet store

Thanks so much. Is this kind of bird flying around wild in Southern California? I'm trying to figure out if it would be better to set her free, but if she couldn't survive that way, I would keep her as a pet. I will get some Finch feed. Thank you very much:-)
Thanks so much for the link, Nanny!
You guys are good! That's her all right!
Most often sold a s a pet...Native to Australia. So not a native bird.

Thanks again. That's good to know.
Perhaps escaped… be sure to check the local papers and vets' offices to see if anyone is missing one.
Thanks -- will do. I've got him a nice cage now with finch food and even bought him a buddy so, if no one is missing him, I'll keep him.
That is such good news that he will have a home!
Thanks so much for your help:-) The store-bought one is much younger and seems to be getting picked on by the rescued one. The rescued one keeps pulling feathers out of the store-bought one. They are both males. Other than that, they seem to be getting along pretty well and slept together last night.
