NEED HELP GROWING SWEETIES...

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

My question regards growing SWEETIES.

I've been reading about how they grow along the vine, and I think I got the understanding that the sweet potato will develop along the parts of the vine that touch the soil. Is this correct?

One article says to bury the vine and more sweeties will develop along the buried parts. Is this correct?

If this is the case, I should start the sweetie slips way down in my container, right, and add more soil as they grow up and out of the container? That's the same method I'm using for growing my Irish potatoes, only the IPs don't develop tubers along the vines (at least the short-seasoned varieties won't)...

Please clarify for me. I already have some sweetie slips growing in a tub, but I probably need to divide them and move some of the vine into a deeper, larger container I have available. If it's true they will make more potatoes as they grow up out of the soil, then, I could have a pretty nice harvest out of several containers.

Thanks for your input on this!

I don't think you plant sweet potatoes the same way as white potatoes. Here's a link to help you:

I've grown them for three seasons and it seems to me that they grow out from the mother plant.

Last year, I put in 50 slips and got back 300lbs of sweeties!
