culebra with my shadow, squirt. have to repot today, roots coming out of holes.
culebra
Arlene,
You have done well with this Culebra. I was just outback behind my greenhouse and notice that my Culebra is starting to rot in the middle of the stem but the leaves look great...maybe something took a bite out of it. I'm so sad.
:0(
yes, i would be sad. i had a brug this week the top got bent over, went to try to root and realized it was making that Y..an animal i guess. can you root and save?
I would definitly try to root the top Tig. Arlene, you are a superb Brug grower. I am very impressed as that is a stunning picture, although, I think you will be more impressed than ever when you see this one in bloom which shouldn't be too long with the way your going. Pot size needs to be doubled at the very least though for that one.
It had a third stalk in the middle, i cut it out a couple of weeks ago, it seemed kinda crowded and i thought i would share... didn't think i would like this on so much.
Ok, dumb question time... is culebra a hybrid? Or a species brug. I love the different foliage it has.
So that is what one looks like. Thanks for posting it Arlene. What color will the bloom be?
Jean
PoppySue,
The Culebra was considered so different it was actually classified into its own genus when it was first discovered. Methysticodendron amnesium or something of that nature if memory serves me correctly. Rest assured, it is a Brugmansia and it was discovered in the Sibundoy valley in Columbia if memory serves me-Apparently held very sacred by a tribe in that area. Whether it originated as a sport, or simply the result of some medicine man fooling around with hybridizing a thousand years ago....I honestly don't know. There are other very unique Brugmansia as far as flower and or leaves are concerned though rest assured. I have one hybrid of my own that has abberant leaves about 25-50% of the time. It hasn't bloomed yet so I am debating erradicating it. I have another spindly Dr.Sues x Ecuador pink hybrid that is extremely slow growing, but its the most velvety hybrid I have-...still debating erradicating it as well as it has not flowered either.
Brugmansia candida aka aurea "Culebra"

oh, just send it to any one of us, we'll hug it and squeeze it and call it George, and it will bloom in no time!!
Arlene thanks for posting the picture. It's nice to see what it's supposed to look like. Copied your picture so I can hang it in front of my little one. Maybe it'll give mine an idea of what it's supposed to be doing. My leaves are thinner than a pencil.
Liz, i am rolling on the floor, you are too funny! i use osmocote with minors, fertilizer for citrus trees might be cheaper, i am gonna check, and run the sprinkler every day.
Arlene, All your Brugs are just beautiful. You've certainly got a greenthumb.
Tonny, that is squirt, maybe you can see the ball..he lives to chase balls. he has become my shadow, i spend the most time now outside, and i throw the ball for him. cairn terrier mix, weighs ten pounds and minds me like a charm! he is so funny, he growls at the DH and DS when they pet him i think they trained him to do this...he never growls at me.
Arlene,
Did you grow him from seeds or a cutting? :-) He is cute and the plant is pretty even not in bloom.
He`charming :) I love dogs. I had two. An American Cocker and a Fox-Terrier x Schaefer. The first I called Cocker is old and gone, but the other, Terry is still with me and shares most things, that I do. I am self-employed and most of my work at home on my computer and in my gardens, so he follow me everywhere. I don`t know if its the foxterrier genes, but Terry loves to dig out mouse of their holes, play with them like a cat, then eat them. He`s a real charm and often he make me *rotflol* so I can`t bread. He is a joy. When we take a walk people spontaneously come to him to pad him on his head. Well, I have to stop talking of him here, because he is even not remotely looks like any brug, that I ever seen and would rather post a pict of him in the pets forum. Will you pad squirt, where he likes it best and throw him a ball for me?
