Quail in my backyard

Kingman, AZ

We moved to Kingman Arizona November 2010 and on Christmas Day (what a nice gift!) 12 Quail stopped in our yard to eat with the rest of the finches we were feeding at that time. Now we concentrate on feeding only Hummingbirds, Orioles and of course the Quail are our favorites. I have been keeping a daily logbook of all their visitations since they routinely started coming every day on March 24th 2011. They only missed coming one day due to very inclement weather. We have learned a lot about their behaviorisms and witnessed the beginning stages as well as the end stages of a male that was 2nd in the pecking order take the power position away from and deposing the Lead Sentry, which eventually led to his demise. We have built a large diorama of a Quail's favorite habitat in our entire backyard and these birds visit us several times throughout each day. They really are at home here as our backyard is more "wild" than many of the unsold lots in our neighborhood here, only about 4 blocks from the beginning of open spaces with no homes. If any of you out there have Quail that visit your yard frequently, write to us and we can trade some facts.
