Mississippi Kite

Several days ago we first noticed three Mississippi Kites over our place. Now we only see one but it is making multiple trips gathering small tree branches.

Counted 8 Mississippi Kites in one tree yesterday but couldn't get a photo that showed all of them. Did get this shot with 7 of them resting in the top of a tree after they had been working the cow pasture next door. Have not observed any more nest building activity, though.

That is great to have that many around.

What a thing to witness! I've yet to see a kite of any kind. Lucky you!

Thanks guys they are fun to watch,we have never seen all 8 together again. We see 2 or 3 all the time. We've never seen Kites before here we have lived here 31 yrs. After reading about them they are quite a bird to migrate all the way from central South America have their young and return back to SA.
The good part is if they build a nest and have babies they will be here up to 60 days. Now I have to find their nest so I can get some pics. They tolerate humans very well, if you are quite they will not fly off like other hawks I've seen.

I didn't know about them. I saw a red kite in Wales but it was perched on the tope of a dead tree. I would not have know what it was if it had been flying.
