elephant ear question

Greenfield, IN(Zone 5b)

I grew elephant ears for the 1st time this year. The frost got them and I dug them up, now what do I do??? The part that was in the ground doesn't look like the "bulb" I started with. Julie

Hmmmmm... I planted mine in a newly made small bog... the huge bulbs seem to have disappeared, and there is just a thickened stem, with lots of healthy roots. Does this sound like yours Julie? I am wondering if they adapted to the wet conditions... I also noted the same thing of my callas and caladiiums grown under same conditions. John

It's normal for the bulbs to look like they have grown "deformed". The bulb will look like an enlarged part of the stem with a lot of little "babies" on it. Sometimes the clumps will be huge. I dug one that filled a bushel basket, and it grew from a small bulb.

John, that is exactly what mine look like.

Thanks Calalily. So we just let them dry and then store them for winter?
