Indian Hawthorne and Spirea

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

My Indian Hawthorne and Spirea didn't bloom, did yours? The Hawthorne had lots of berries on them, and when they fell off I saw lots of buds, but nothing ever happened after that.

The Spirea had maybe a dozen blooms on it for a couple of days, but it is usually covered and looks like a giant snowball.

Were you colder then usual this year?
I don't have hawthorns but dozens of bridal wreath spireas. They usual don't go completely dormant, but did this year. I would have guesses it would help them bloom more, but no. Not much of a show at all.
Can't help, just thought it was strange as well.

I don't have either one of those but my Azaleas didn't bloom worth a flip and they are always beautiful.

Well, it's not that misery loves company, but it does take some of the worry out to know it's sort of happened all over, not just here. I've had the Hawthorne in probably 6-7 years and the Spirea (mine's bridal wreath, too) for around 10. They've bloomed better and better every year until now. Hmmmmm. Guess everybody needs a break once in a while.

Azaleas are short on water this year, humidity wise esp.

To answer your temperature question, Cocoa, we did have that long (for us) hard freeze weather in January. That's the only thing out of the ordinary I can think of. Usually, if it gets really cold here, it just lasts a day or two.

Then maybe they just needed to put forth extra effort into putting new growth, rather then blooms? Just one of those things that makes every year different, never a dull moment, huh. lol

My spirea hasn't bloomed yet either.
