Passionflowers have five sepals and five petals, maybe you have an hybrid or a polyploid. More or less grape leaves, i.e. three-lobed, a way to distinguish from the very close P.miniata (former P.coccinea)
I think you are more educated on this than I. I a, trying to do some crosses tried crossing it with insence no go tried it with temptation x temptation nothing yet tried crossing it with lady margaret nope lol stuck out all over
Actually you may be interested in the first issue of Passiflora Journal Online in which I happen to have published an article on hybridization...check at http://www.passionflow.co.uk/passiflora-online-journal.htm
Wow thanks for the link great job to all of you and your friends! Very interesting good read! There's some beautiful flowers there. Thanks again...Dana
You're very welcome, there are quite a few folks in the PJO who are US residents so may get contacts for plants exchange or general advices, those guys are pretty good.
This one has been going and going Lady margaret and Gail dragging there feet. But they have not been here long. Constance Eliot grew for 3-4 years made a huge stalk cold hardy here to 20 degrees. I grew it up a oak tree This spring for no reason it died its stalk was bigger than my thumb. Once I saw what was happening I cut a few pcs and rooted them hate to loose it.
Hmmm, looks like some variety of edulis.
Might be edulis flavicarpa from the size of the leaves.
