Babies are hatching

Conroe, TX

Two babies have hatched! One is a white Bow Tie Silkie, the other is a Silkie mix. The white one hatched last night, the other this morning or early afternoon. So tiny and cute.

Smedge, what is the food in that last picture? Looks like scrambled eggs and corn kernels?? Can we feed chicks corn kernels??

Conroe, TX

No corn in their feed, only scrambled eggs.

Oh. Thanks.

They are just precious Smedge! Now ...Im a little lost here ( NOT unusual) You said a Bowtie Silkie , then ZZ called it a Showgirl, so they are one in the same? A Bowtie isnt a bearded Silkie? Im still gettin' educated!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

They might have started calling Showgirls something else.. but a naked neck Silkie is a Showgirl.. the bowtie is a puff of feathers on her throat.. Some Showgirls don't have a bowtie.. some do. :) I just love em! Best of both worlds.. silkie and naked necks in one! :)

(Zone 6b)

Smedge you are having too much fun with those babies! :)

Conroe, TX

Yep, that's it, she is a bowtie Silkie showgirl. We have a roo and a hen and now a baby. Hopefully the other eggs will hatch soon, they are a little behind these two. I think maybe tomorrow we should start seeing some action on those.

By the way, the mama hen isn't the mama, she is just a Silkie Cochin that went broody and we slipped a couple of showgirl eggs under her with her eggs.

LFJ they are too adorable arn't they. So so so tiny and hard to resist.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Nothing cuter than fuzzy butts

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Oh Im Hyped now on these little darlings! I think Id like to have a couple too! So I have to have a Naked Neck (Turken) to breed with My Silkie? ( please I missed the Lesson elsewhere) I know no question is a dumb question but I really feel dumb about this!

You can get Showgirl eggs easy.. I think trying to make that cross could take you generations to perfect..

Just did a search for Showgirl hatching eggs.. :)

Conroe, TX

You can also get them from showmesilkies in Missouri.

Ahhh! OK!

Well the other two eggs turned out not to be good. We candled them today and they look like they started to develop but died. So, these are the only two babies.

Duck babies are due to hatch this weekend sometime, I'll post pictures when they do.
