Is this the Paloe Verde tree that the Saguaro cactus grows under as a young plant? I read in a book that when the Saguaro gets big enough it kills off the tree by soaking up moisture more quickly with its bigger root system.

It's either this one or the Blue Palo Verde (Parkinsonia florida) or the Little leaf Palo Verde (Parkinsonia microphylla), From what I've seen out in the boonies, I suspect it's more toward the Blue Palo Verde.

If I find any more info on this I will let you know. Here's some related articles.

Thans for the links Xeno, sounds like its various Parkinsonia species the Saguaro uses, its not like it has much choice I suppose where its seeds germinate!

You need to go back here and get a pic of this huge tree in full bloom for us!!!

They are not large flowers, they look like the other jeruselum thorn tree blooms on the entry page. I had two in my yard but had to be removed because of excessive needle littering getting caught in all the cacti underneath it, Now, there are columnar cacti living in the spots.
