Question about growing elephant garlic

(Carole) Cleveland, TX(Zone 9a)

Since the bulbs are SO big.... can the individual bulbils (?) be cut at all to grow more plants?

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

So far as I know, each clove gets planted.

ahhh i was think that was probably the case.
2nd dumb question: do i peel the clove? or leave the 'skin' on?

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

No question is dumb; I just don't have too many answers.

You need to pull the dry skin off the bulb to separate the cloves. Leave it on the clove. It is going to be a long time before you can harvest garlic, but you will also be able to eat the greens before they dry. It's been a long time since I grew garlic; you need to be patient. Check online for a video.

Do not peel the clove unless you're going to eat it.
