It is a little high. You can ammend with peat, add sulfur or both. I like mine is in the low 7 range but I still get berries. It is wayyyy too high for Blueberries.

Glad I saw this - I will put some of my lime all around my blackberries as my soil tested out at 4.2 to 4.5. These are the thornless var. but the wild ones grow all around (including in my lawn every Spring) so I assumed I didn't need to lime them. Thanks Jujubetexas

4.5 should be the low end. I bet if you were around 5.0, you would be fine.

That is a very low ph. I bet you can grow all kinds of berries.

Jujubetexas- I don't recognize the Thimbleberries, Salmonberies or Salal. I found out, several yrs. ago, that you can't legally ship gooseberries or currents to NC. My daughter who lives in Wash. DC asked for black currents for her B'day in September 2010. I had them shipped to her from Nourse (excellent service) and they did fine even after 3' of snow in her backyeard. I asked the lady at Nourse and she told me why I can't have currents but I forgot.

The blueberries are my favorites anyhow and I have a great blueberry farm about 35 miles away which I like to visit.

Just because they can't be shipped in doesn't necessarily mean you can't grow them. Here in Florida we have very strict rules about shipping fruit trees in from other states to protect the very important fruit industry, but you can still find many of the same species and varieties sold at nurseries within the state.

For example, any citrus plants sold commercially in Florida require an inspection tag indicating they don't carry canker, and no citrus plants may leave Florida at all because of the danger of disease transmission. But you can get Florida-grown citrus plants almost everywhere in Florida (at Lowes & Home Depot as well as smaller nurseries).

Thanks Rich,
I have looked for currents at Lowes (talked to their vendor reps -best people to ask usually - and the garden area mgr.) with no luck. Also did searches for currents nurseries NC, etc and got no hits. I am not going to lose sleep if I never see a current anyhow as long as my figs, blackberries and blueberries keep growing well.
