Anyone else having issues with their Agapanthus?

(Carole) Cleveland, TX(Zone 9a)

I had three VERY healthy bunches of them in a bed that receives morning sun /afternoon shade, watering regularly.

In the past two weeks, they've started looking yellowish, drooping, losing leaves... and NOW look like they would in the fall... almost nonexistent. I've seen others blooming, and mine didn't. Now concerned they won't this year at all.

Any ideas? thoughts? suggestions?

Ah ha! I decided to check out the PlantFiles. Good thing I did. I learned a LOT... mostly that it's not just me! yippeee!!!

Now to move them to a POT where they can become POTBOUND lol and be HAPPY! For now I have to assume they're ok in the location (bed) because they multiplied and looked beautiful at first.

Would appreciate suggestions though as to the soil mix. I'm sorry, but I'm not 'there yet' on understanding pH balances in soil. So if you maybe tell me 'rich' 'sandy' etc. I'd really appreciate it.

TIA,

I'm growing mine in the ground with no problem. They are crowded so that may make them somewhat similar to being pot-bound, but honestly, mine have bloomed after division when they weren't crowded. They didn't seem to really enjoy the super cold weather, but I gave them some fertilizer for a change and bloom spikes are appearing now. Keep in mind that they have to have attained some size before they bloom so if you started out with small plants, they may just need more time. I agree with giving them afternoon shade; otherwise, they burn in our hot sun. Mine are growing in only slightly-improved gumbo in one location and better soil in another. No sand here.

thank you, Leslie. i just was so encouraged when they came up looking so beautiful and healthy early March. i think now i will try to find another location before i lose them all ;-(
i just really think that soil, so matter how much i fertilize the plants themselves, is just too poor for the A.
