How many Texans are growing Hippeastrums outdoors?

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi,

I have had Hippeastrum Johnsonii outdoors for many years and I am in zone 8a. What other types of Hippeastrums do well outdoors in Texas and in what zone in Tx?

Beaumont, TX(Zone 9a)

I have St. Joseph, Apple Blossum, Red Lion, Dancing Queen and few others in the ground.
They have bloomed except the Red Lion. I also have some in pots.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I have all different kinds in pots outside all year round. They are my most favorite flower to have.

In the garden..very nice ! Do you keep the St Joseph, A Blossom, Red Lion and Dancing Queen in the ground all year round?

IloveJesus99, Mine too!! Do you just bring the pots indoors when winter comes around?

I do keep St Josephs Lily (Johnsonii) in the ground year round. I haven't had the other Hippeastrums long enough to know how hardy they are.

Sanandreyas70, yes, they are in ground all year. Like steadycam3 said, they are evergreen.

Arlington, TX

They are mostly listed to zone 9 but I have some pink (variety unknown) and they come back in my zone 8 garden. I do know they belong to that genus.

Very cool!! I may leave a bulb or two out all winter...i don't want to lose to many of them. Here is my blog page if you all are interested in looking. If i do leave some out through the winter..i'll keep up with how they do on my blog.
