CLOSED: Lost nearly all plants

San Antonio, TX

This year we had four days of continous 29 or below weather. I lost nealy all my plants, even the ones that were cover and I thought protected. Does any one have any spares . I will gladly pay postage. I live in San Antonio, Texas. That weather was so unusual for our part of the country. You can contact me at jhmatheson@msn.com Thanks

You know, we had the same weather 3 hours north...and I lost very few of my plants...perhaps you should look at different plants such as natives...

Jo Helen,

Also have some Dianthus and Gaura to send along with the other list. The Dianthus have survived Dallas winters outside in a pot for three years, so they should be reasonably perennial in San Antonio. :-)

What plants might you be interested in?

Jo Helen,

Ready to plant? Have three small boxes shipping tomorrow:

About five Siberian Iris, yellow
Three or four Dutch Iris
Couple of dwarf variegated Cannas, think it's soft orange but don't remember 'zactly
Three or four Lilies, two are Matrix Red. Don't remember the other. It will be a surprise. :-)
Couple of Daylilies, think they are Franz Hals
Ruellia, this is the taller one and it's pink
Coreopsis Early Sunrise
Couple of variegated Oregano
Gold Oregano
Gaura Sunny Butterflies
Striptease Hosta
June Hosta

I have to say I know how you feel. I lost a lot of my plants this year. It is because it was unusually dry along with the cold. I look at my yard and want to cry. I have not yet cut down the 12 ft high dead orleanders.. need to do that. Most of my bulbs did not come up this year.. all those hours of planting over the years.. guess everything dehydrated even though I watered.. I could not afford to water as much as it really needed with nothing coming naturally from the sky since last september. My grass is hanging on with watering 3 times a week but the wind dehydrates the plants horribly.

Tammie, don't know if it will help, but I still have dozens of Bearded Iris. Would be happy to send you a boxful if you'd like, along with a few Daylilies.

And a gaura. It should do okay in Odessa. :-)

I can relate I lost some of what I had planted but since I have only been in this house 2 years wasnt as much as it could have been. I have noticed some of the bulbs not coming up so we will just replant which is fine since I moved my 89 year old grandma in with us the first weekend of March. She loves her flowers and I am letting her do whatever and plant whatever. Gives her something to do she enjoys and keeps her happy and busy and of course I like it too I have someone to help me now with it. I happened upon this site this weekend and have feel in love wiith and now have grandma addicted too. We have become a subscriber as well and I am sure you all will see me hopping around here learning the trade and such and asking for this and that. Great to meet you all and look forward to learning more.
