jasminebugli: I've had this plant for many years and it didn't bloom for the first time until about four years ago. I don't know much about these plants so I can't really give advice on how you should grow this cactus but I can share with you what works for me.

The Selenicereus anthonyanus is a cactus/succulent type of plant and I live in a very humid climate so I grow it in a mixture of orchid bark mix (which is a combination of bark, perlite and charcoal) and potting soil. I use more orchid bark mix than potting soil which makes a very chunky, fast draining potting medium. I only water once a week during the hot summer. During our winter which lasts @ 3 months, I don't water at all. My plant remains in a screened patio area year round and it gets many hours of sunlight every day.

I wish you luck with your plant, I know you will enjoy the beautiful, fragrant blooms!

How do you start off other small plants from this ric rac succulent? mine seems too heavy on one side and I'd like to start a small one for my daughter but earlier efforts have failed, any suggestions?

Just one cutting from the mother plant will give you an other plant.
