Storm Worries

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I know we have folks on here from storm struck areas. If everybody could check in it would put our minds at ease. Praying everybody is fine.

(Zone 5b)

Thank you so much for posting this, CajuninKy, you're always so thoughtful. I've been worried about our fellow chicken loves too! I hope they all check in as soon as they can.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Still watching this thread and have all the folks, including those that are not DGrs in my thoughts and prayers.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

It worries me that nobody from the hardhit areas have checked in.

(Zone 6b)

Who is missing?

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I know Eufaula is in Georgia and I know there are a few more who's names I can't come up with. Some also who don't post often but I know they are there. Freedom Sailor posted from Alabama. He and his family are fine. Just some cleanup to contend with.

(Zone 6b)

Eufaula lives in Putnam County, Eatonton, GA

I found this info online:

0230 AM TORNADO 8 SE EATONTON 33.24N 83.29W
04/28/2011 F1 PUTNAM GA NWS STORM SURVEY

EMERGENCY MANAGER STORM SURVEY DETERMINED THAT AN EF1
TORNADO DEVELOPED 8 MILES SOUTHEAST OF EATONTON AROUND
230 AM EDT. IT TRACKED FOR 7 MILES INTO WEST HANCOCK
COUNTY TO 8 MILES WEST NORTHWEST OF DEVEREAUX LIFTING
AROUND 305 AM. PATH WIDTH WAS 200 YARDS. NUMEROUS TREES
WERE SNAPPED OR UPROOTED ALONG THE PATH AND SEVERAL HOMES
DAMAGED BY FALLING TREES

(Zone 6b)

Yes, Georgia was hit pretty hard. Newspaper article states,
35,000 homes are still without power. Her town is south east of Atlanta, situated about the middle of the state. Maybe she is out of power.

-----------------
" total of 23 counties received damage, with most of it concentrated in northwest and central Georgia."

Dahlonega, GA

Eufaula is fine . It skipped over her . No damage .We're good too up here out of Dahlonega . Only some rain , no wind to speak of .

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Thank you Digger.. I'm glad you are okay too.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Sorry Guys for not checking in! Thanks for your concern and thank You Digger for letting everyone know that I m fine!
Yep ... The BIG one that tore up Alabama , came straight across hitting I-20 about 18 miles from me. I could litterally feel the pressure drop and heard the ROAR!!! It spun off several smaller, ( if you can call any Tornado small) in my area and put trees down every where! But compared to what happened to a lot of people , I Am Not Complaining! The little Town where I like to Shop, Madison, Ga., got torn up pretty badly. Im very thankful for my Blessings!

all is well here on the coast. Mid to upper part was hit pretty bad. We rarely get a tornado down here and is usually in a with hurricane. We do see water spout frequently during Thunder Storms coming off the water if you are near the beach

(Zone 5b)

Thanks for letting us know you're ok!!

Makes me want a storm shelter. I started looking, but they are not cheap. Not sure why digging a hole in the ground and putting in a little 6X6X8 cement room needs to cost $3500, but so far that's the cheapest I saw.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

I remember my Grandparents having what they called the "pit". Flowers and root vegetables were kept in it during the Winter, and it was where you got to if a bad storm brewed up. Of course Grandma had Grandpa jump in first to check for snakes! LOL!!
It was just a big old hole about 8X12 X 5 , that had a hinged A frame roof sitting on top.

Dahlonega, GA

My in laws had a dirt roof piled up and a wood door that sat on the slope of the roof . Just dirt hole , no concrete , timber ceiling with tin over it to pile the dirt on .They were north of Henrietta Tex and could see one coming for miles . Scorpions are what I'd be scared of . You can see snakes easy enough .

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

LFJ that is very cheap if it includes the block room too

Dahlonega, GA

When you consider all the pluses , that is,less stress , and life itself , I'd agree , it is a cheap price to pay . Consider it to a cheap second hand car and it doesn't seem so expensive . Just another way to look at it .

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

So glad you guys are OK. Thanks for letting us know. Has anyone heard from Shoe?

(Zone 6b)

I knew Eufaula was too ornery to die. :)

Dahlonega, GA

No , it isn't her time yet . We have a weekend trash hunting trip to make first . Gonna window shop til we drop and let D H chauffeur us anywhere we want to go. Might even stop for banana splits .
Wanna go ?

(Zone 6b)

I would love to. Let me get my hat and coat.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Soooooo, Im ornery HUH? ....yep..if you only knew! LOL! Nope, Darned ole tornados Just dont want me , I fight back!
I was just wondering about our trip to the North Georgia Mountains for that Tand T shopping trip..... You think there is anything left up there, Digger? I know it was pretty bad on the West side, but some of the mid-north got hit too!

Dahlonega, GA

Johnny goes within four miles of it several times a week and hasn't reported any damage on his route . It's two or three miles out of Ellijay off hwy 52 towards me .I'll check further .

Dahlonega, GA

Whooo ! I just talked to Walter , owner and he said no damage . But get this , They are usually closed on weekends , BUT, if we call him , before the weekend ,he's usually around and will make sure the gates are open for us and we can look till our hearts content. I whined and told him you was coming from S Ga and weekends was the only time off you had . We'd been planning this for months . No really , I didn't whine .He was so sweet , I'll have to buy something .
