Mexican flame vine

Beaumont, TX(Zone 9a)

Has yours popped up? I think mine is gone....nothing.
It was huge last year and just getting better and better. I only had it couple of years.

Anyone dividing?

Mine didn't survive this winter either. I'm hoping to find another plant and not have to start one from seed. I'm not patient enough for that.

Mine here is N central TX is coming back, but slow. We had quite a winter so I thought it was a goner.

Portland, TX(Zone 9b)

I collected some seeds recently from a nursery plant and I have sowed them, Hopefully the sprouts will grow faster than the snapdragon vines I planted from seeds....they are slooooow to develop at my house anyway. The flame vine is such an interesting plant, I thought I would give it a try. We had a pretty bad freeze along the coast too. I did fairly well, just lost a norfolk pine, a croton, a fan palm and a schefflera. Everything else did very well and recovered. I won't be planting any of those varieties again.. :)

Good luck with your MFV.

I've tried the seeds but nothing...so I need a seedling or cutting.

Bellaire, TX

Buchanan's in the Houston Heights has gallon-size containers with the species. I've also ordered the plant, as well as a cultivar called 'Sao Paulo,' from Kartuz Greenhouses in CA and from Almost Eden plants in LA. All have grown well. I thought I'd lost two of mine this spring, but when I pulled them up, one was alive so I transplanted it with my fingers crossed. It's growing well. Oddly enough, the 'Sao Paulo' cultivar came back much quicker than the species which is counter-intuitive. I now have five of these vines. The only blooming one is the one I got from Buchanan's this spring, but the others are close.

I lost mine as well. so if anyone close is willing to give cuttings, I, too would like a couple. TIA Cam

The one I had always bloomed in late late fall or winter.
