Happy Easter Everyone:

Ferndale, WA

I hope all my forum family is filled with the Spirit and awareness of our RISEN SAVIOUR...Hay

I feel so fortunate this Easter, I just accquired Twenty Dutch Bantam Silkie babies, plus two adult hens and two adult roosters.

I also received nine American Red Silkies.

ZZ's the lady you spoke with on facebook, Debbie Stumm got ahold of me and asked if I wanted all of them as she is no longer raising Silkies. What do you think I told her? A hundred fifty for all thirty three of them, you bet...I will be picking them up next Saturday and will post pic's probably the following Monday. Happy Easter all...Hay

Easter chickens! Happy, happy, happy!

I feel really great about Easter!
We raise our hens so that we have eggs to sell at Farmers Market from May until October.
They started laying Mid March, so now are getting 225 eggs a day. No place to sell them. Tried to give them to food shelf. Of course government run so no deal there. Tried calling Salvation Army. They apparently don't have time to answer phone.
So, I put ad on Craig's List for Free Eggs to the less fortunate. 36 boxes of 18 went to a low income elderly apartment building. One box to each apartment.
Another man came today & picked up 3 boxes. He said he has 10 grandchildren he wanted to do Easter eggs for a egg hunt. He isn't very old & had a disabling heart attack 3 years ago.
Feels good to do for others!
Happy Easter!
Bernie

Today was a very special day for me. I spent breakfast with my darling wife, we read and talked of the Lord's Ressurrection, around noon we remembered a ninety-one year old Japanese gentleman who was recently hospitalized, he is a dear man. We decided we would visit him and read the Easter Story to him. (Yes he is a Christian) Upon our arrival there were others there but they were all leaving. One gentleman stayed, After greeting our friend I asked if the gentleman who stayed was family? He said yes and introduced his son. A very nice young gentleman. We read the Scripture together he relaxed and smiled. Afterward he told his son, Howie and his wife love me and we are like family...He was right we really do love him...Out of nowhere he decided he wanted to talk to me about World War 11 and his internment in America, during the war. He said many Japanese were angry about being interened but he wasn't, he said I always told them how imbarrassed I was about the Japanest atrocities, and how much I love America and that America was just trying to protect herself...He looked at me and took my hand and said Howie I love you, and thank God you came to visit me. We both began to cry, we prayed together and his son stood up afterward and said, thank you for what you have done for my father. I said in reality i'm here because of what your father has done for me. I told him your father is a constant reminder of what a true American is, a patriot and one who loves the God of our Fathers. We hugged, my wife and I took our leave and silently drove twenty miles home. Upon our arrival we parked and both of us silently thanked the Lord for that great experience. George Fuijimoto is a precious man...who really made Easter come alive...Hay

These are pic's of my one and only pure black baby, this bird is so special and unusual. I'm truly convinced this bird is unusual, he/she paces like crazy as soon as it see's me, it even runs it's head into the glass until I pick it up...It is only seventeen days old and constantly flys from my lap to my head.

A belated happy Easter to all of you! Thanks for sharing the true meaning of Easter.

My DN understand the true meaniang and knows the egg hunts are really about Rebirth. She told all the dogs, cats, chickens "Happy Easter" and that it wasn't about getting candy LOL

I'm thankful for this forum every day of the year.

Happy Belated Easter everyone. Had a quite day. Had 1 of the grandsons Friday to Saturday night, then brought him home so he could wake up to what the Easter Bunny left for them. They go to Church but I don't believe they understand about Jesus Ressurection yet. The older grandson was at a friends who was getting a pool and wanted to stay to watch them putting it together lol

Country what a awesome thing to do. I have the same thought there is only a Head Start near me which is Govt. Controlled. I may contact Angel Food Ministries and see if they will come pick them up as they are 20 miles away and I rarely get out or go very far when I do. They provide food at very low cost once a month and take Food Stamps for those that are on them

Hay I don't think you could have asked for a better day What a true Blessing.

Ferndale, WA

Your right Donna, it's pretty amazing to me what people want to talk about in there last days. This gentleman probably won't be going home, the doctors aren't sure whats wrong with him at this point. He is on a respirator which makes him sweat but he just can't get enough oxygen without it. He is very much ok with going home to be with the Lord, but I am in hopes he will recover and spend more time with us at the Senior Center...Hay

Don't know if anybody's still reading this site or not... but I'm wondering about that little black bird who seemed to have taken to you, Hay. What's happened there with it? Is it one of your chickens, or is it a pet bird of some other sort? I think it thinks it's a person! Is it still perching on you at every opportunity?

Also, did that Japanese man tell you anything else about his internment in the camp during WW II that you can share? I'm always fascinated with other people's unusual experiences, with what happened to them, and how they dealt with them. It's amazing that man wasn't resentful of what happened, with those poor people losing all their homes, lands, most of their worldly goods and having to start over after the war. It had to be extremely difficult for them, being interred like that, especially the well-educated business or professional people who were used to accomplishing things with their lives, although it would be hard for just anybody.

Lazarpl, my friend from Japan, has just been taken home to California, to spend his last days with his children. He is an amazing man, the Doc has given him just days. I met him at the Senior Center. George stood about 4' 10" and he probably weighed in at somewhere around 85-95 lbs. He would tell me go get some rocks so I can make it to a hundred lbs. He was so small and yet larger than life. I served on the board with him and he was either speaking about the Lord or tell one of his quirky little jokes. I just loved that man. I will miss him so much, I truly loved being with him.

He just loved America, and the american people so much. Not a bitter thought toward what happened to him. Just three days before he became sick, I sent to the Capital for a new flag that had been flown over the Capitol bldg, I raised the flag slowly and he performed the Call to Colors with his mouth, we both saluted the flag and prayed together in dedication to the center. George stood there with me and just wept. He then told me Howie I love America and all she stands for. It was a very humbling experience for me. George is gone but never forgotten, he was a prince and a reminder to me of how God changes the human heart.

OMGoodness Yes I still have my little one monthe chicken Serama. He just isn't interested in any chickens, I put him on the lawn and run, but I can't get away from him. He just won't stay off of my head, so I have to wear my hat cause he scratches my bald head. I am totally fascinated with this bird, He/She is nothing like anything I have ever had. I carry it around in my pocket probably at least a couple hours every day. It has not pottied in my pocket yet...Do you know what the Seramas are??? If not google them, they are wonderful birds (chickens)...Hay

Sorry I did not mean to be so rude, please tell me about your sons, how old, home or gone, interests...I love hearing about what others are doing...

Hay, I'm sorry to hear your friend George isn't near you anymore, but it's good that he can be with his son in what are probably his last days. (Sometimes those docs are surprised, and people live lots longer than the time the docs allow to them!)

He reminds me of some friends I had from Peru. Once when talking to the man, he said to me with very deep emotion in his voice, "I'm SO proud to be living in the United States!" He was almost in tears when he spoke.

Did he get to keep the flag you'd gotten that had flown over the Capitol? Or did it stay at the center? What a nice thing to do, to get a special flag for that special occasion!

I'll have to google Serama, and will look it up in one of my chicken books. (I've already developed a small library of chicken books. Soon I may have to move out of my house to make room for all my various books!) I'm curious about how big Seramas get. Hope he doesn't get too big to fit in your pocket. He'll be heart-broken!

I didn't even think about your being rude by not asking about my sons. They're grown, live fairly close by and we keep in touch nearly everyday. They're good guys! Don't know what I'd do without them!

I too am a "people person" and love to hear about other people, especially ones uniquely different from myself, like from other countries etc..

Have you given your little Serama a name?? For goodness' sake, don't tell him he's a chicken! That would definitely break his heart!

Hopefully Hay as it gets older and is in with others it will become more chicken like, remember Jadee was like that cause she bonded with dh having been hatched in the incubator and living in the fish take, remember what a time we had with her trying to get her to live with the other silkies and ended up putting her fish tank out in the silkie coop because she was so scared of the other chickens? Lazarpl I`ll post a picture of Jadee she is now a mother of 6 three week olds and does very well with the otheres but it took a long time.

Green those pic's are so precious, I don't remember the one with your hubby and the grass. Those pic's are incredible. There's just something about those babies...Hay

Lazarpl, the seramas only get to a lb generally for the hen's and 1 3/4 lbs for the roosters. They are regular chickens but thrive on human contact and they love being doted over, kinda like my wife does...LOL...Hay

Oh my goodness, what precious little chickens! I've never seen the like! Thanks for all those great pictures, green. I couldn't have imagined it it I hadn't seen it! Do people (like you folks) raise them just to be pets? It sounds like they have to be TAUGHT to be chickens! Do they need special feed and special everything?? Maybe kept in warmed houses? Wow. They're hard to believe.

Bridgewater, ME

They are my pets with fringe benifits of eggs to sell to help buy their feed and good tasting eggs for us.Baby chicks need chick starter it comes medicated or non.If they don`t have there mom I get the medicated. No they really don`t have to be taught they know naturally what to do,the pecking instint is right there but if you get babies from a hatchery you need to show them the water, you dip there beaks in it once and they are good to go,but you have to careful with new babies as they can drown in water so I use a small poultry waterer and put marbles in it for a few days, they fall asleep quickly and their beaks could land in the waterer. They need heat lamps to keep warm and a brooder box which can be a cardboard box or a fish tank,or a tote, you can use just about anything. They need to be kept at 95 degrees the first week and then lower it by 5 degrees every week untill they have there feathers.I know it sounds like a lot but its not really. You have everyone on here to help you,I know you will enjoy having them, but let me warn you it can be very addictive.lol
