Tulips blooming this spring.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Tulip season is starting here. I planted the early tulip mix from Scheepers both in back and amoung the daylilies in the front yard. The Daffodils are in back of the tulips.

Rita, what a SPECTULAR show of tulips and daffodils. Your hard work in the fall has definitely paid off this Spring. Great combination of colors. Annette

Thanks! That is 200 of the Early Tulips mix from Scheepers which is planted in a double row directly in back of the daylilies and some in between the daylilies. Then I had also gotten 200 of the Daffodil Long Trumpet mix also from Scheepers and most of them are along in there above the tulips. I did have afew bulbs leftover which I put elsewhere.

Impressive array.

Will you pull your tulip bulbs and store them, or leave them in the ground? I read LeaWood's 2 threads on doing this, and I'm going to pull mine and store, to replant in the fall. The tulips left in the ground from 2009 had a 50% return rate here in our red clay soil. Apparently none should have returned. Guess I got lucky LOL d(o_o)b

I am not going to dig them and will deffinately leave them. It was enough work just to get them planted. I can't immagine digging them up and then replanting in the fall.

But I will add to them. I am plannning to get 200 more of the early tulip mix and plant them between the daylilies were I have some now (most are directly behind those daylilies). The spot has good drainage so I am hoping for a decent return for next year but I don't really know until it happens.

With good drainage you shouldn't have any issues with bulbs rotting. I think some of my tulips returned because my yard is sloped, the soil was ammended to make it looser, and they weren't in any areas of standing water. We have hot dry summers here as well. I want more tulips as well, I loved the Bloomsday mix from Colorblends, and I'm going to get another color for this fall.

Today is warm and pleasant. The Beauty of Apeldoorn Tulips are open and look great to me.

People are stopping today while driving by the front yard and looking. I get lots of compliments if I am out there.

I had cars stopping to look today and I had walkersby taking pictures. I love it when the flowers look good and people notice.

And I am so pleased with those front yard tulips. They look so pretty even if I do say so myself LOL!

Did you get all of your tulips from Scheepers?

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

No. I got that 200 of the early mix from them. But I got Beauty of Apeldoorn from Brent and Beckies. I got my Gudoshnik from Brent and Beckies too but Scheepers has it also. Then I also got a Darwin Hybrid mix (not shown here as not yet blooming) from Brent and Beckies.

Then I got various other tulips in lots of ten from Brent and Beckies also not in bloom yet.

Those look awesome! I love that last picture you posted! Doesn't it make you feel really good when people stop to look at your flowers? Walking by or driving by, of course the walkers have a bit more time to gander! We had a car stop in front of our house this morning and two different couples walk by and comment on how nice the flowers are. I even had a kid on a bicycle riding by and yelled "I love your flowers!". Gives you the 'warm fuzzies'!

I have alot of terracing and flowers in my front yard so there is usually lots going on. I have lots of roses, lillies, Tall Bearded Iris, Upright sedum, Hummingbird Mint and daylilies so many series of blooms. Plus I plant zinnias for summer color. Now that I have the tulip and daffodils blooming out there, I have finially gotten the early spring part of the blooming taken care of as it was something I needed to add for years.

It's starting, and it's looking good.
