my husbands aunt has the red and yellow variety of Lantana and it comes back up every year-- her sister bought the mixed color and was told it would not come back every year--- is this true because for the first time -- this is a plant that my husband actually picked out for the garden-- any info would be great Your pic is beautiful and I can only imagine what the whole plant looks like in your garden or pot-

I only planted this plant in a huge planter this year...so I don't know about it returning each year. The plant has no flowers right now and hasn't for about the last month, just green. However I have both the lavender and the white Lantana in the ground and they bloom more in the very late summer and fall with the most blooms in the winter months...even after freezes.
The tag on this Dallas red said perennial, and cold hardy to degrees. My other Lantana that I've had for years will freeze to the ground if the temps dip too long into the twenties. But they are the first thing to come back up in the garden. This past winter none of them froze to the ground and had more blooms than they ever had...leaves were a bit brown from the cold but the flowers overpowered the brown leaves.
I hope this one will come back but at this point I just don't know. I do plan on dragging the pot into the porch if it does get real cold this winter. This is mixed with all yellow and they are just now starting a second flush of flowers. I have to keep my lavender and white plants trimmed back or they get too big and take over the garden.

apologies for late reply- that sounds like I have a good chance of mine coming back up no matter what color they are. the plant is like you said - taking over the garden blooming even now like crazy . last yr was my first winter here and her plant died down to nothing but dried up sticks at the ground core. broke off easily when I was cleaning up. I thought it got too cold and died so did my in-laws so you can imagine how surprised we all were when it sprung back up and took off. How wonderful it has been to watch dozens of butterflies all around it and the bees too . went all out and made a place for them to drink water and sun on rocks. alabama heaven this spring she just covers everything in the garden with straw seems to work I'll do that this yr thank you for your info

My Red Dallas is all in bloom again. This is the time of year they all start popping out lots of blooms. I had a lavender in a huge plastic pot for years and last month it looked like it was dying. I noticed it was busting out the bottom of the pot and growing into the ground. I decided to put it in the ground, had to bust up the pot and tried my best not to break the roots, but one of the big roots broke. I thought for sure I killed it, but now a month later it is covered with green sprouts and doing better than ever. All mine in the ground will freeze totally but do come back each year.
