Yesterday, this bird crashed into my living room window. It scared both the dog and I half to death. I have looked to see if I could figure it out, but I am not having any luck.
I took this picture of the bird walking around in the yard. It had dark pinkish brown legs and there was a red band around one of its ankles. Just really curious what kind of bird this is and why it is banded.

So it is someone's "pet" bird? Do they race them or what? Just wondering what it was doing when it crashed into my window. Oddly enough, when I asked it, it did not answer me! LOL!!
Might be someone's racing pigeon (in which case it'll have a coloured race ring on one leg), or it might just be a feral bird (i.e., descendant of a lost racing pigeon from long ago).
