It looks like a type of gladiolus.
It looks a lot like: Gladiolus byzantinus “Byzantine Gladiolus”

The mystifying part of this is my nephew has lived in the same place for 30+ years and has no idea how this got there Maybe in a load of topsoil he bought??? Thanx for your help..
