What goes good with Baby Buffs???
Baby duck are about as cute as it gets...Hay
Hiya Hay, Yep they make me smile every time I look in the trough! I was going to wait til the Buff babies were settled but hubby said I'd waited long enough..
They're just a mix I guess , one has a lil fuzzy on top so I don't know if it's a crested or just got a cow lick?? I've had so much fun since we broght them home sat.
I watched them trying to catch a fly today...it was hilarious!!!
MsC
Aren't they Pekins?
Cutie pies!!!!
Cute
Hey MsC, I'll bet they were fun to watch, did they ever catch the fly? Last year a lady came by and I'd never seen her before, she asked me if I wanted a doz fertile duck eggs. She said they were supposed to be for a lady friend, and the lady friend decided she didn't want them. I told her I'd hatch them for her but she didn't want them either. Anyway I hatched out seven little ducks. They were adorable but I didn't have any place to put them so I gave them to a friend after they were two weeks old. I just never knew baby ducks could be so much fun to watch. Have a blast and a great day.
I coined a nickname for you (Missy)...I know you didn't ask, I just did it on my own...LOL...Haystack...
Hiya All,
Just checked on the new duckies and everyone is fine. I'm thinking they don't need the heat lamp any longer, yesterday was 92 here. I also switched them off the Med Chick starter, too.
Why would chicks & ducks need Med food??? Is it common practice?
Oh and should I give them oyster shell already ???
Porkpal,
I think they might be Pekins, but the name tag at the store said they were mixed, so I just figure time will tell. The White Pekins were what I wanted so I hope you're right!
Hay,
I don't mind a nick name at all... kinda how I got MsC= MsCritterkeeper. It was too long to type every post & other folks confused me with my friend Critterologist..lol
The duckies never did catch the fly, but I'm sure with time they will be excellent. They sure zoom in on things. They look me right in the eye when I'm changing their water & papers.
We're have about 7 acres here and 3 of it is fenced in nicely. I still need to decide where they are going to live.I know I want to see them from the house/ patio area but I also know I don't want to SMELL them from the house..lol
I'm tempted to put them in with the chickens til we build the Duckie house. What are the thoughts on housing them together for the short term????
Thanks
MsC/Missy :)
Oh my God. I can't resist....What goes with baby buffs? Gravy.
Ha-Ha :)
I was afraid someone would go there...Hubby says some of the baby buffs will probable get the gravy & biscuits treatment. I think I have 4 too many roosters.
I'm a bit of a softie and don't know if I can REALLY eat something I raised, but I'm gonna give it a try. I kinda think in theory that's the way it should be BUT I'm old enough to have seen lots of theories fail when put into practice.
OMG Jyl.. I was resisting saying "fried Potatoes" LOL
Boy, I did kinda walk right into those jokes didn't I...at least there's a sense of humor here.:)
MsC
I have heard many say their ducks and chickens get along just fine, and I'm sure that is true...Hay
Ducks and chickens do get along, but ducks are way messier and tend to get everything wet. Also, medicated food should not be fed to ducklings. My ducks are loose in the 3/4 acres of the yard that we have fenced it. They have been for years. We don't seem to have the preditor problems with the ducks, once they are grown. I determined years ago, that God made ducks for pure joy. I love watching them chase bugs across the yard. We haven't see a slug in this yard in years.
Missy I should have warned you about this bunch, they just wait to pounce on the unsuspecting...I'm sure glad you have a great sense of humor...You'll need it here...LOL...Haystack
I love the fun that goes on here, and humor is one thing we can all use a good dose of...Hay
Haystack, you're just happy that someone else is the victim of our humor. ( Ms C, Haystack gets picked on more than most of us here.)
Thank heaven someone finally said it, jylgaskin! I was about to bust open!!!!
;p
LOLOL
Good clean fun! I love it!
They're growing so fast! I swear someone swapped out my babies lastnight & put adults in there. I'm thinking the faster we get the Duck house in order the better. Same thing for the Buff Babies! I think they may go into the chicken tractor much sooner than we can redo the old coop.
That will teach me to be spontaneous at the feed store.
I did change their feed over to non med feed and also added a bigger water!
MsC
I'm aching to get some Indian Runner ducks, but for once I will use my head instead of my heart. No, really!
They have great posture: so vertical; they take up very little space...
Oh help. I was going to say "baby biscuits". I'm glad I'm not the only one!
