Wind is blowing blowing blowing blowing

(Zone 6b)

That's all I had to say. Terrible wind last Sunday that knocked down telephone poles. Today, again blowing things around like crazy. My eye still hurts from something blowing in it last week. Hope it works it's way out soon. Today I wore goggles.

My neighbor's tree limb broke and landed behind my car. Scratches on the bumper, but that's all I noticed, thank God. Still I don't appreciate the scratches. That tree is dead and should have been trimmed several years ago, or cut down completely.

Ferndale, WA

I think it's a bit crazy everywhere according to the Weather Channel, Yesterday we had snow again. This time of the year it should be around 60+, but it is still in the thirties. My poor birds don't know what the problem is. This weather has sure effected their laying also.

I have a doz Iowa Blues, and a doz Buckeyes that will be here next week-end and I'm hoping the weather will break so I don't have to have 250 heat lamps on them, but rather maybe 100watt bulbs. Well we shall see. Stay out of that wind LFJ, it can be dangerous...Hay

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

it is blowing like a hurricane here today. Nobody out but the yard ducks. Thinking about putting them back up. No rain so far which we really need. My pond is down to a big mud puddle covered in yellow pine tree pollen. I need 3 to 6" hard and fast rain to put some water back in it or fill it up

Richmond, TX

We have serious wind too, but that's a lot better than snow! Haystack - Iowa Blues?
They are new to me. I think you will like the Buckeyes if you haven't had them before. I am so sorry you are missing out on spring.

Ferndale, WA

Porkpal, the Iowa blues are supposed to be great birds, from what I have heard, and I have had the buckeyes a long time ago but it will be great to have them again. They were very good layers and do well in cold weather. I will let you know what I think about the Iowa's after I have had them for a while...Hay

Richmond, TX

They certainly are attractive birds. I hope they are friendly too.

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Storms moved through last night after tearing up Alabama. Thank Heavens they moved more north west of me, I heard the thunder and saw the lightening and it was at least 30 miles away, really bad! Winds here today were really kicking but it blew all the bad weather away. We have sunshine here Yaaaaaay!
The chickens are just loving it and me too!

Ferndale, WA

I'm very happy for you...: o )...Sad for those who are being hammered...Hay

(Zone 6b)

We sure need rain.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

went all around me too. Not a drop ;-(

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Last weekend we had 3 inches of snow on the ground, this weekend we are in the 80's...

(Zone 6b)

I saw a dent on the trunk of my caddy yesterday that was caused by those limbs breaking and falling. :(. This was my mother's car that I received after she died, and have taken very good care of it. It's a 97 and has 75K on it. Nothing wrong with it until now.

As far as this tree goes, these neighbors, well mum will be the word, but suffice to say that I have done everything in my power to avoid this situation, I even paid to trim the trees over my driveway and garage.. trees that were NOT my trees, I paid to trim HIS trees. That wasn't good enough, because the limbs broke on the other side of the tree and the wind blew them far enough to land on my car. :(

So what do I do now? Guess I start by calling my insurance company and asking them. This situation has never come up for me before.

Guess I should be taking some pictures too, and getting some estimates. I try not to cause trouble for others, but this is too much. That tree is dead and should have been taken down a long time ago.

Pelzer, SC(Zone 7b)

Document, document, document. Talk to your insurance company, and see what they suggest. You're faced with the "Act of God" stuff, but with the tree already dead, you have a shot. Why mum with the neighbor? Laws vary from state to state, but where I've lived, if I want something removed that hangs over my yard, it's up to me. I think that if it's a dead tree, it is likely to fall on the neighbor, though, as a known hazard.
I'll be interested to hear how it comes out. I hope that you find a way to recoup without causing neighbor issues...

Ferndale, WA

LFJ as Catmad said talk to your insurance co. In most places that I know of if the tree is dead, it's a hazard, and the owner can be sued for lack of what is called (Due Dilligence). Small claims court is what I'd suggest if the neighbor refuses to make it right with you. I don't know the laws of Texas, but it makes sense to me that you could not go over to their property and have it cut down. Why would you be responsible even if the limbs grow over the air space of your property. I would let them know what happened to your car and see what they say and if they don't respond kindly and responsibly I'd go after them...Just my opinion, and yes document everything well...Hay

(Zone 6b)

Well, he actually gave me permission to trim his trees. I did it because I did not want to have trouble. He's got this huge tree over my garage that is an accident waiting to happen. Anyway, I trimmed the tree that had limbs hanging over my driveway. I also trimmed the ones that were about to break and fall on my garage. Guess I didn't go far enough.

I called my insurance company today and they explained about the "act of God" thing. Gee, I got to say God that time and no bad repercussions. :) I told her how I had trimmed his trees and how it is diseased and dying. She said, in that case it is negligence and to ask for his company and policy number. So, outside a few minutes ago I told him I had a dent in my car from his limbs and what they had asked for. He said, he'd take care of it.

It just irks me because I have tried to take care of my car and garage. He leaving old junk around that blows into my car too. He's just a really odd man. He has some kind of disease since childhood that makes his bones break and he said when he was little the whites of his eyes were blue. It's genetic because his son has it too. Still, all that does not explain ALL THE TRAFFIC in and around his house all the time. Something is going on over there that just isn't good. Not sure what exactly. Suspect it could be drug related, or he may be running a brothel. Um, no I'm not kidding. Some very strange things are going on over there. I should take some pictures for you.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

It is too cold and rainy up north and there is 18F degrees above normal heat wave and drought down in the south.
If you northerners will push really hard and I will pull just as much, maybe we can even it out in a week or two.

Richmond, TX

I'm pulling my share...

Bridgewater, ME

Four to eight inches of snow tomorow for us!IS SPRING EVER GOING TO GET HER!!!!

Richmond, TX

I'd like to have spring here too, but our premature SUMMER is lots better than your extra WINTER.

Ferndale, WA

LFJ, just be careful about taking pic's...If your seen doing that you could put yourself at risk...I just hope they do right by you...Hay

(Zone 6b)

At this point it's a matter of principle.

Did you see the fires in Texas? It's getting bad. So far, they are far south of me. We've had a few start up here, but were quickly extinguished.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

I agree with Haystack... Be Careful

(Zone 6b)

Well, it's been a bad situation with this guy for three or four years now. He has some screws loose. The traffic over there is so bad, I don't feel safe in my house. The house he lives in used to be the nicest one on the block, but has been sold three times in the last ten years, and he's actually the worst. He tears everything up he comes in contact with, and leaves junk all over the place. They are often having fights and yelling.

I know he was in prison a few years when he was younger. He and his buddies set a van on fire. He told me that himself.

Hmm.. yeah, maybe you are right. Maybe it's time to call crime stoppers and see if they can investigate this guy. The police have been over there a few times, though I do not know what for.

(Zone 6b)

Not that my house is perfect, not by a long shot. I'm so thankful I have some fresh paint on it at least. That was a miracle I was able to have that done. I am going to need a new fence pretty soon too. I hope I can get the eight foot high one, even though it will cost more.

This morning I have to drive to amarillo to see the doctor. It's just for a checkup, but has to be done. I don't depend on them to fix me. I believe my health is my own responsibility.

Yesterday I was watching a video about tea made with cloves and ginger and thee other spices or herbs which I have forgotten. The man said he drinks it every day. Spices and herbs have some great healing aspects to them. Rosemary, I have read recently gives you lots of iodine which can protect you from radiation poisoning. You can even take it in capsule form now.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Yesterday I was in the house and heard what I thought someone was driving around the side of the property. I looked up in time to see a dust devil come swirling by and pick up a chicken coop and toss it in the air about 3 feet and turn it upside down. It is no small one about 5 feet high and 4 feet wide. I ran out to make sure the one chicken was ok, its being used as a recovery pen she was just standing there looking up in the air. That pen is so heavy that it takes 2 people to lift it. I guess living in the flats I have to anchor things down...

Richmond, TX

Scary! I'm glad your house looks so solid.

(Zone 6b)

Sounds more like a tornado. I was told dust devils don't harm anything they just look scary and swirl and blow up dirt. This did damage.

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

This wind has not stop blowing for the last 3 weeks now..wondered if we getting a storm brewing in the Gulf somewhere?

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

I have always said that what people out here call dust devils are mini tornado's but they disagree... All I know is there are some huge ones out here.. Yep house is solid..

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

Good..I am glad..cuz we don't want anybody blowing away..lol..

Pelzer, SC(Zone 7b)

The Hurricane Center sent plane out to monitor a disturbance in the Atlantic during the week, but I never heard anything more. Hope it's not indicative of an early or active season.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

always very windy here in April. I always thought the saying was "March winds bring April showers". We need rain desperately. My pond is nothing more than a big mud puddle now. Kind of wish it would hurry and dry up then we can have it dug back out and cleaned out too. It has filled with sediment over the years at it is the lowest point of the property

Richmond, TX

Out two tanks are completely dry.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

I have 4 ponds that I pump water to 400 fruit trees. Only the smallest pond has water and only about 1 foot.

I am getting that same feeling that I had 2 years ago when we had 68 days over 100 and no rain for 5 months.

It was kinda like cabin fever if the cabin were heat and drought.

(Zone 6b)

We are being given some hope for rain for the panhandle of Texas tonight. So, far the little town of Stratford is the only one to have rain tonight, at least according to doppler radar out of Amarillo. We have two more chances of rain this week to look forward to.

I too have a bad feeling, but maybe it is just a feeling. If nothing else, pray for the wildlife to have a drink of water. It is so hard on them, these droughts.

A friend of mine, is a volunteer fire fighter and has been in Possum Kingdom fighting fires. He says it's burning down some beautiful expensive houses by the dozens and the fire is only twenty percent contained.

Do you have these neat radars in your areas? http://www.newschannel10.com/category/182022/super-doppler-online Those are just the neatest things and even give the exact size of hail coming and also tornadic rotation.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes. One station has that as well. You can zero into a geographic area very very close where you can see the outline of your house.

(Zone 6b)

I haven't seen one like that. Is that just for your area, or is there a link nationwide?

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

http://austin.ynn.com/content/weather/interactive_radar/

That is the link to Pampa.
If it doesnt work, just put in your city and state. It uses the satelite picks on the map. Keep clicking zoom in until you find your house.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

maybe 1/2" rain today but tomorrow has a better chance but also 30 mph winds plus in the thunder storms

(Zone 6b)

We actually have thunderstorm warnings this morning, and this area is FINALLY getting some rain, according to doppler radar.

I'm very grateful. Fires, we do not need! Thanks for your prayers.
