I'm sort of new to this birdwatching thing, and have seen a pair of these very small, delicate birds hopping around my salvia and perching on my tomato plants the past 2 days. He looks smooth-headed in this pic, but at times fluffs out to almost have a little crest. I checked my central texas guide book, and am pretty sure he's a Lincoln's Sparrow.
Sorry if it seems obvious to you old hands, but I'm not good at this yet (and have a crappy camera!).
Help with id - Lincoln's Sparrow?
I'd agree with Lincoln's
Resin
Yes, Lincolns. They migrate through and usually spend some time in my flowerbeds this time of year. They hop faster than any other bird, I think. At least any other bird in my flowerbeds. And they LOVE the birdbaths. They bathe several times a day. Cute little things. That's an awesome picture you took, too. It really captures the grey around the head and the yellowish tan wash along the sides.

Thanks, Resin and Loonie. I thought so, but wanted to be sure. This board has been a great help to me. @ Loonie1, they are indeed fast little hoppers - never still!
