Just this one shot...(of course! lol)
CLOSED: Warbler ID Help?
I am pretty sure it is one I already have & should know!!
Best fit I can come up with is Black-throated Green, female, but the pic isn't good enough to be certain. Realistically, a UFO (Unidentified Flitting Object).
Resin
I think Black-throated Green is the closest match too...Thanks Resin! I knew it was I had!
Really? It looks like a Prairie Warbler to me. Maybe I have the head and tail confused!
Now, I can tell that's the tail! LOL! In the first shot is the bill poined toward the left bottom corner? 'Cause if so, those facial markings look pretty dark for female black-throated green. I guess the dark weather could make them look darker. I'm sure Resin is right but still looks like Prairie Warbler to me!
Oh I wish the shot was better....A Prairie Warbler would be a new one! I will post on another place I go and see what they think.
This is a bad pic of a Prairie Warbler but that's why I'm sharing it. Might be better to compare a bad pic with another not so good pic (don't want to put down your pic -- sometimes with these little birds it's amazing to get a pic at all!) Linth has a gorgeous pic of one in the bird files but that's what they look like when perfectly lit up and perfectly photographed. This one had just finished bathing and it was a cloudy day. Check the black markings against the black markings on your bird.
It is a possibility..thanks for your photo for comparison Elphaba. That is very helpful...it is frustrating to compare a bad shot to an excellent photo. I will continue to try to confirm an ID. Don't worry Resin not checking anything off yet!
Thanks for your help guys!
I am leaning towards PW but not enough there i,m afraid.
Thanks for weighing in Burd!
this is one of the comments from the other site I put it on. This guy is pretty knowledgeable and good at ID's.
Claudia; tough shots for an ID, but I believe your first photo shows a male Prairie Warbler. Distinctive facial and throat pattern. In my opinion facial pattern rules out Magnolia, and the throat pattern does not strike me as either male or female Black-throated Green. If it was my bird, I would call it a Prairie. Thanks for posting.
