Plum tree problem with fruits

My sole plum tree this year came out strong. Hundreds of plums. Some grew extremely fast. I went out yesterday and about 10% of the plums have swollen to 3 times the normal size, turned yellow, and are somewhat distorted, mishapened. They are just dry and spongy, mostly empty. Anyone know the problem?
