I was able to visit two of the best nurseries in Texas (in my opinion) in the past week, The Natural Gardener in Austin and Maas in Seabrook. I bought some wonderful perennials and am getting ready to go plant them in the beds. So much fun!

Well, don't keep us in suspense. What'd you buy :)

Ok, so this is what I got:
Bee Balm, Jacob Cline
Black Foot Daisies
Dichondra Argenta
Bat Face Cuphea
Bravado Coneflowers
Persian Shield
Lions Ears (to go with the Lions Tails I am growing from seeds from Lazlo!) wonder where I could get the middle part of the Lion?
Whirling Butterflies Gaura
Mexican Lavender
While I was out there laboring I also planted the things I WS from seeds which included:
Lion's Tails, Strawberry Fields Globe Amarath, and Northern Sea Oats all from Lazlo.
Angel's Fishing Rods and Pink Narrow Leaf Cone flowers from Kim_M
Several kinds of short Zinnias from Kat_M
Spirit Frost Cleome from my garden.
Whew, I'm tired!
I love the bat face cuphea and they are tough little plants. I've got some that have survived the past two really cold winters and are already full and blooming. Let me know if you have luck with the Persian Shield and guara. I've never got the PS to live much longer than it takes to get it home from the store. My guaras do well for a while, but croak. I've tried them a couple of times and it may be they don't like the spot I've been trying them in as it's full sun all day.
You'll have to post pics when it's all filled in. Can't wait to see it!

I have had good luck with the Persian Shield in a spot that gets some sun in the morning and mostly shade in the afternoon. It froze back this winter but is coming back nicely. The spot where I am putting my guaras gets quite a bit of sun so I hope it makes it. I think they are so pretty. The one I got is white and I planted it near some white salvia and some Diamond Frost Euphorbia. That bed had a potato vine in it last year which sort of took over the bed and it is coming back in several places. I am going to have to do some demolition on it as the summer progresses I am afraid.
I had the potato vine that took over too. If you go after it right after a rain, the runners are easy to pull out. It only took one season for me to eradicate all of it, so hopefully you won't have too much trouble.
I love the idea of your bed of mixed white colors. I had white petunias with white allysum this spring and it made a beautiful bed. My red tulips were sprinkled in there, and they were tall enough to stand above the white. It looked really good, if I do say so myself.
Show us pics when you're done.

Will do.
I had to dig up the giant tuber on the potato vine before it took over my entire bed...looks pretty, but too vigorous for me...
