Looking for some of the more unusual ones to buy
Thanks.
Alice
Variegated Brugmansias
Yes I am... but that's not what you ment... I can't imagine what in that catagory would be unusual for you.. I thought you were the Queen there..
Gordon, you made me laugh .. :D
Some of the odd ones I see I would like to try.
And 'Axel Rose' ones I lost in the week without power in February 2009, and would like it again.
These I would like to try:
'Sunspot'
'Sprekles'
'Roberto'
'Variegated Angel's Flight'
And any others not common.
'Miner's Claim' and the fuzzy 'Peaches & Cream'. I gave both of those away, and don't care to grow them again.
You should not have to coax a brug to grow.
I have a Axel Rose..fixing to bloom..will post pic soon as i get home..lol..
Alice, I have katrien Bonte, and do have varigated angels flight, but do not think it is a real healthy plant. It does not have SB, but that nasty bark like HHG has. I have kept it isolated since I got it last year. It is growing(slowly). I also feel the same about angels flight. LBG is so much nicer, and has become a real favorite here.
Hello Theraglady,
I do have 'Katrin Bonte'. She is about ready to bloom, too :)
Thanks for your information. I will look for LBG.
Alice--It appears we are both focused on variegated plants--I just looked at the canna forum for the first time in a long time, and responded to something. Now I see you have variegated brugs, too. I have a very few--Snowbank, Miner's Claim, Maya/Sunset, Peaches and Cream, B. suaveolens Variegata (from Kartuz)--your list really peaked my interest. If you find sources for anything I don't have I'd appreciate knowing of it. Jerry
Hi Jerry,
I have several variegates. When I add to my variegated list, I will add a few special ones, though I don't know which yet ..lol
I have been putting my brugmansias on my blog as they bloom : http://beautifulbrugmansias.blogspot.com/
Some of the variegates are there, and I will be adding more as they bloom. Click on 'older posts' at the bottom of each page to see them all.
I left you replies at the canna forum, also.
Thanks :)
well alice...I have a Brugmansia x 'Wupperstolz' Variagate on the way to me... if it works out I'm thinking of having 'Roberto ' sent also... I'll put you down for the first limbs that don't confirm to the look.. I'm sure they will be a nice addition to your develomental interests.. I'm sure we can find something to trade... the blog was a wonderfully beautiful tour of activity there.. I'm so ready to get things blooming on a larger scale here... but the ocasonal blooms are wonderful.. none the less...
Guess I can plant mine outside now. Have to find a hole digger 1st.. How should I ammend this red NC clay soil in the planting holes??
Thank you, Mr. Hawk :)))
BirdieBlue,
For future reference, since your question has nothing to do with variegated Brugs, you'll get more exposure and responses if you start your own thread.
I hope you don't mean you are going to use a post hole digger. Plants fare better if the holes are wider than they are deep. The edges of the hole need to be rough rather than smooth because smooth sides tend to encourage roots to stay within the hole instead of growing into the native soil. Don't amend the soil in the hole. The recommended procedure is to plant in the native soil. Then add a few inches of compost on top. An amended hole will fill up with water with no place to go.
I hope this answers you question.
yes... plant on a high spot wth your bigger hole... A $10 HOLE for a $5 plant... if you want to amend the hole dirt.. with a hole in clay... it does become like a closed pot with no drainage holes... trench out from the clay pot hole to lower ground.. making a frenchdrain away from the pot hole in heavy clay..
Raised beds or berms would also work if you don't have any sloped areas. I can sympathize with you. We are building our new home over the only streak of red clay here at the ranch. I'll find out how extensive the streak is once we start working on the yard. I'll probably go with raised beds since I also have a problem with Bermuda grass. That will mean putting in an impenetrable bottom under all those beds.
impenetrable bottom .. for bermuda grass... MMMMMMM I can't imagine that..
it must have come through the nano technology work.. heavy micro carbon layers.. but will it drain..
LOL, no post hole digger. I need someone to do the digging. ^_^
Betty Lee- I assume that you think I do not have any varegated Brugs.

Gordon, concrete slab bottom with drain holes drilled at the bottom of the sides.
BirdieBlue, hole diggers and pot movers are always welcome here, too. I just assumed you had gone off topic as we're doing now.
