Has anyone tried them? I have read they do fine in Tx sun.
Viva Sun Patiens
I am hoping someone will have some information.
These are incredible. I've used them for about five years now. I seek them out. They used to be only available at at Home Depot; now they are available at Lowes and also independent garden centers.
The plants get HUGE! When I yanked them out in October, they were about 3 feet tall and across! The flowers are huge, too. I have them planted on the west side of my house ... as long as you keep them watered, they will do great. I HIGHLY recommend them. The Dallas arboretum also gives them high marks. These are a winner
I believe they also come in a "dwarfer" version this year, but I prefer the giant ones!
Thank you SO much! I told my landscapers do put them in my yard. They are coming tomorrow or the next day. How far apart do they need to be? Two feet? I need to watch them, I think they will put too many in. If they did, would the plants still look ok?
Also, do they need lots of water, I have heard they do. They will be in the hot sun. They will also be mulched.

I would plant them 2 feet apart in the landscape. When I plant them in containers, I group three gallon size plants together.
They do need lots of water. I have mine on drip irrigation which helps quite a bit.
I thing you will REALLY like these impatiens!!!
Thank you. The landscapers couldn't find them. DUH. I told them where to look. I know where they look and they always have the same ole thing for landscapers. They brought a lot of vinca. That is ok. There is one area that we can still plant around a tree. We found the Sunpatiens at Home Depot today and bought five. Hubby will plant them this eve. I can't wait to see how they grow. Thanks again.
I'm so glad to see some info on these. I have searched the internet and found conflicting information on the height and width of these. I purchased the Salmon Varigated Spreading variety and have seen size descriptions from 8-10 inches high and 18 inches wide to 3 to 4 feet high and wide. That is a big variance!!!
I have three large planting beds and was planning on planting these behind some Pablo Gallery Dahlias which get about 14-16 inches tall and in front of some Micanthus Grass which gets about 5 feet tall. Any info you can share would be appreciated!!!
I think the eventual size of the plant depends on the zone in which you garden. I have found that I cannot rely on height/width measurements here in south Texas, because everthing will get much bigger here (if it can stand the heat and humidity). If a tag says 2 feet tall, in Texas, it usually means it will get 5 feet tall .... just a much longer growing season.
There are three (3) different types of sunpatiens:
Vigorous which are the ginormous ones that I prefer.
Spreading which have variegated foliage and
Compact.
Unfortunately, I have not found labels on plants to identify the different varieties ... they are usually just labeled "Viva Sun Patiens" At Home Depot, I have found the "vigorous" varieties are usually sold in gallon containers ... they are generally much bigger than other impatiens plants.
I think I found some compact varieties at an independent garden center, because the stem length between the leaves is much smaller and the plants are not growing as vigorously.
I can't vouch for the spreading and the compact series, but the "Vigorous" are top-notch in my book!!!
Thanks for you help!! I'm in zone 5 here in Missouri so we'll see how "ginormous" they get this year! I just love the pop of color on the salmon varigated variety, but they are all gorgeous!
Mine are in the ground now. They have red leaves, SO pretty, they are doing great!
