DH and I are going to be in the Woodlands for a long weekend and I'm looking for ideas for myself during the day (DH is doing the ironman race and will be in meetings and orientation a lot of the time). I'd love to find a nursery or two that deals in exotics or tropicals of a more peculiar nature. I know there's a nursery that specializes in Gingers somewhere out there.
Of course, I'd also love to run into a DGer or two while out there as well if anyone would have me. :)
Where to visit in Woodlands?
Ahhh, Woodlands is fun, but I am not home, I do most of my hiding in gardens further west anyway toward Tomball, and Spring. All have very interesting areas to poke around in. Hope you have fun for your weekend
Oh it's not until late May so we'll see how it goes. :)
Then I will attempt to gather my daughters knowledge of her area and throw some hints your way, I doubt seriously I ever get to go home often, but you will have an inkling of interests. Must go, pillow calls tonite.
Will you have a vehicle? Are you in need of some excellent soil or mulch or compost? There's a place called Nature's Way Resources just off of FM1488 (just a bit north of The Woodlands) that has THE BEST soil, mulch, compost, etc. They're not open on Sundays, though, so you'd have to go on Saturday. They have all kinds of different soils - citrus, blueberry, etc. Take a look at their web page: http://www.natureswayresources.com/
If you can, grab some of the Texas Green Sand. It's great for adding to your gardens. It adds extra minerals, etc. A little goes a long way. And FYI, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center has Nature's Way deliver soils, compost, mulch. I happened to overhear one of the employees talking to another one (as I recall, they were discussing delivery dates?). Heh... delivery fees must certainly have cost more than the products!
I'm not familiar with The Woodlands except for going to the doc's office. However, I can tell you about Culver's - a fast food place. LOL They have WONDERFUL food! I love their breaded port tenderloin sandwiches. And their root beer is TDF. They're located on the southeast corner of Six Pines Drive and Research Forest Drive. Kind of difficult to see with all the trees around (I guess that's why they call it The Woodlands. LOL). Check out their menu: http://www.culvers.com/
DUH! You have a couple of them around Austin! You're probably already familiar with Culver's then.
cr0ak - Thank you for the response! We're driving from Austin and yes, we've been to Culver's but usually for malts. :)
I'd love to get some good dirt but I'm not sure we'd be able to fit it in the car (DH will be taking all his triathlon garb). I will be at the Wildflower Center this weekend (the annual Wildflower Days fest! Love it!) so I'll see about the Green Sand. :)
yup, you need a buried treasure map and a gps to navigate the woodlands, even when you are there you cant tell it, even in places like the walmart lot, chuckl, and the thingy that supposedly always points north stays lost too.
