CLOSED: HAVE: Daylilies, LA Irises, Mints, Perennials

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

I have the following plants for trade (none for postage at this time). Plants will be well-rooted (not cuttings or seeds). They may be small since it's early in the season, but they've all been grown in ground for a year or more and roots are well developed.

I'm looking to trade for other perennials (no cuttings or seeds), roses, etc as listed at the end of this post. I'm always open to suggestions but I usually do not grow tropicals anymore since I'd have to dig and store for winter.

DAYLILIES: One trade is one Double Fan (DF) unless otherwise stated below with TF (Triple Fan):

You can look these daylilies up in the database at http://www.tinkersgardens.com to see what they look like and how tall they get. If you need to see some that aren't shown there, let me know and I'll post pics from my gardens here.

Clerodendron Bungeii - Mexican Hydrangea

Artemesia - Limelight

Sedum - Yellow blooming, gets about a foot tall - sun or shade, wet or dry

Physostegia - Purple Obedient plant, False Dragonshead

Saponaria - Pink Soapwort

Spice Mint

Blackberry Mint

Silver Mint - a few small plants coming up

Lemon Balm

In return I'm looking for plants that are hardy in zone 7.

I also do not accept cuttings or seeds in trade. The plants I send you will be well rooted and I need the same please. I have no time or skill to deal with cuttings or seeds.

I'm looking for the following, but I'm open to other ideas too, and I'd consider something non plant as well if it's something I could use.

a climbing rose, preferrably The Fairy climber, the Iceberg climber, or some other climbing that rose that blooms most of the summer. Something with a romantic name would be nice too since it's going in the wedding garden on an entrance arbor.

red twig dogwood

Joe Pye Weed

unusual japanese maples with colorful leaves

beauty berry bushes (callicarpa)

Clematis - red, white, pink, doubles

Tall Garden Phlox - named, as I have several varieties now

Corkscrew willow - well rooted

Butterfly bushes in various colors

White TX star hibiscus

Named hardy hibiscus like Clown, Lady Baltimore, etc.

Bee Balm - named, as I have several varieties

Verbascum

Pineapple Sage

Dahlias - huge reds, pinks, blues or purples

Other perennials for full sun

Gingko tree

Chaste tree

Bottlebrush tree

Unusual shrubs or trees

Plants with unusual foliage, or black or yellow foliage

Anything to fit the themes of my various gardens (Aphrodite's Love in the Mist garden, Unity Garden, Aloha Garden, Petals and Wings Butterfly Garden, Serenity Japanese Garden)

Anything with a music theme to celebrate the release of my son's first professionally produced CD. He does rock/pop, but got his start doing Johnny Cash songs

Non-Plant items I could use:

Brother TZ tapes - 1" black on clear for my labelmaker

Molds for making concrete garden decor

Pet meds for two large dogs (Heartgard and Advantix or Frontline)

If you live close and can do an in person trade, I'm looking for other items that are too heavy to ship. We could do a big trade. I'm sure I have other plants popping up or will pop up soon in this weather we're having, so just ask.

I'm open to other suggestions. I'll add other plants to my haves list when they pop up.

Nancy Ann, I'd love some Arundo Donax variegata. I'll have to purchase some from you, most of my stuff froze, I've got some cactus, but don't know if you are interested in that. I did get some red sugar cane plants, but they are just potted up and don't know if they are rooted well enough to send out. Or, I can make you something... I do have a nice sized Buddha Statue. I'll measure it to see how big it is. It is about 1 year old so it is used. I also have a start of Black Bamboo that I can dig up, it is only one pole now from the mother plant, but it has shot up about 2 feet away. I'm still waiting to see if anything else comes back. I also have LOTS of hens and chicks, three varieties...

Do you happen to have any Valerian? Mine was pulled out by accident. It was doing very well here even with the freeze we had. Either Red or White would be great.

Antoinette, you know you're welcome to anything I have. I'll glad send you some Arundo. It's about a foot tall right now and is mostly white with some green on it. Beautiful!!

I'd love a Buddha for my spiritual garden. I've tried to find one around here but even hobby lobby hasn't had a suitable one.

Dmail me some other wants on your list. Many of my plants aren't up yet either. But I might have some other things you'd like.

Hi,

what is the plant you pictured on your message?

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

It's Arundo Donax. It's related to cane and bamboo. Gets 12 or so feet tall and produces canes like bamboo. I use them to stake my tomatoes. It starts out with a lot of white and then progresses to a beautiful yellow, and by the heat of summer, it's pale green like bamboo. Here's a picture that shows it with the yellow.

what can I offer you for some--I just love the colors.

Cedar

Mesilla Park, NM

Hi there NancyAnn, Just sent you a Dmail. I also love the colors on that, there are quite a few patches here of the green Arundo and it got out of hand in the ditches here, they are used as wind breakers. I am not close to a ditch.

Did this come back on it's own and if it did, it must be very hardy... just what I need here.

A.

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Yes, it comes back for me each year. The last three winters have been really bad, but it's survived them all. It does become green around June or July. When the heat kicks in, it loses its variegation. But each spring, it's so colorful until summer.

I like the fact that I can use the canes to make tomato stakes and trellises.

Also, it grows rhizomes like cannas so it's pretty easy to divide, unlike its cousin, bamboo.

Mesilla Park, NM

Yes, I remember the bamboo in CA, boy, I had about 12 varieties, but did not bring a single one when we moved, the thought of digging that up was just too much for me. So, I just have that one that is about three years old and is just now putting up some 1 inch canes... I may move a little bit to another section, the leaves look pretty ratty right now though, it has not recuperated at all from this winter.

Anyone else interested in trading? I'm going to visit some nurseries in a couple of weeks to buy the rest of the plants I need for my landscaping. After that, I won't be doing much trading; I'll be too busy planting a vanload of plants. So if you want to trade with me, now's your chance. Let me know what you want from me and what you have to offer.

Madison, MS

HI,

I'm interested in

Clerodendron Bungeii - Mexican Hydrangea

Arundo Donax Variegata

Can send the pet supplies, please advise

NancyAnn,
If you have a couple of spare mints, I'd love to have a start of each one. I think I'll plant some in my turtle enclosures for them to eat, and for myself too.

A.

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

I have plenty to share with you, Antoinette. I'll put some in your box. What else might your turtles eat? Would they eat sedums? Or creeping jenny? Or strawberry begonia groundcover? I'm sure I have other plants the little guys could munch. Give me some ideas and I'll look around the yard.

Hello,
I would like to trade Florida Anise, Red Magnolia Illicium floridanum I have 1 gallon size
for Arundo Donax Variegata if you are interested.
Kim

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

HI, do you have photo Sea of Stars)
Also are the arundo and rice paper plants hardy in zone 5?

I will look up the LA iris

I have phlox "david" white, disease resistant :) Also have un-named pink ones.
Have Ligularia...needs shade in pm..huge leaves blue green on top..burgundy under and the stems..deep yellow daisy like flowers
etc..have to get off computer but want to check in later

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Hi Kim, thank you for the offer, but I don't think the FL Anise would like it here. My yard is full sun and very dry.

Marcia, I don't have rice plants; I'm looking for them. I don't know if the arundo is hardy in zone 5.

Here's a pic of Sea of Stars.

Ok thanks : )

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

thats what comes from reading rapidly.
While you might like the ligularia..it needs pm shade and more moist area than would seem to be in your garden. :(
I could root some curly twig willow (both colors unless the bunnies have pruned the "red" too short....calling it red Really stretches the color wheel..dk orangish when mature !
I also would have a dbl dk pink peony..would have to check as hadn't broken dormancy when I last looked.
The pink phlox and the white David one.
Would be interested in the arundo and LA Little Blue Skies.
Our season is still in the minor bulb stage ()snow drops, snow crocus, Scilla and just the very earliest daffys.

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Marcia, I have most of what you mention. The Ligularia would die here. I've tried it a couple of times.

Thanks for the offers. I'm closing this thread now. I'm going on a "plant safari" in Memphis soon and will bring home a vanload of plants to finish my gardens. Thanks for the trades we've arranged. When the rain stops and the ground dries a bit, I can dig my end of the trades. Rain is scheduled daily for about the next week. I'd sure like to be working in the gardens; and it'd be nice if some of this rain was saved for the dry summer months. If anyone has any clout with Mother Nature, please let her know she's drowning us.

NancyAnn

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

For all those waiting on trades from me, please be patient with me. We've had lots of rain and storms lately and several more days of rain predicted. I'm also going out of town tomorrow on a "Plant Safari" (my term for visiting several nurseries and hunting down plant to drag back home). Maybe I can get away from the rain for a bit.

Anway, the plants you all want are fine, growing like weeds with all the rain. I'll get them on their way too you as soon as I can. I don't think you'll be disappointed with what you get. If you are, please let me know and I'll make it right.

Happy Gardening everybody.

Thanks, Gourd!

I just wanted to say that the rain stopped for a couple of days (began again last night despite the forecast predicting at least 4 days of sun and NO rain!! What's up with that???). I finished digging the last of my trades, so Antoinette, Donna, David, and MaryAnn, you should have your packages no later than Tues, I'd guess. I'm mailing them by priority today. If you don't have them by Tues, let me know. They all have delivery confirmation and we'll see if we can locate them. I hope you're all happy with them; the rain sure made them grow well.

Cheryl and Suzanne, I mailed your packages Tues, so y'all should have them no later than Sat, if you don't already have them. Again, I got DC on them, so if they don't show up by Sat, let me know.

Thank you all for being so patient with me. It's been such a wet spring!! Here's how my yard looked just a few days ago.

I know how you pack these boxes, and I also know I'll love whatever you send. You know it has been 11 years that we met online. Isn't it something how time can fly and the years go by that quickly? I think there are still a few ladies that we traded with around here from way back. I'll let you know when I get it and you have a great weekend and a fantastic Mother's Day.

We have a busy weekend here, we just got our storage shed delivered and plan to clean out the garage so I can park my car in there and DH can have a little bit of space.. in other words, I'm being kicked out..lol me and my stuff.

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

11 years??? WOW! I guess it has been that long! You know, I still have that society garlic you gave me way back then. I plant it with my roses to keep the bugs away.

That wonderful DH of yours needs his own space. You're getting that nice new studio to play in, so he ought to have some place to play too. You be good to him! LOL

And Happy Mother's day to you too. I hope your son comes to see ya.

Mesilla Park, NM

Thanks, same to you..

Mesilla Park, NM

I got my box, thank you very much!!! I love everything you sent, my arundo looks great and so pretty... Can I put that in full sun or should I protect it some... I can hardly wait till tomorrow to be able to plant all my stuff.. DH picked up my box and just got home. What a nice surprise it was and I still can't believe you got all those plants in there. Thank you for the seeds too!

A.

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Yes, you can plant the arundo in full sun; that's what it's accustomed to in my garden. It may not do too much this year, but in a year or two, you'll have a nice stand of it. It's very hardy, surviving even our worst winters, and it's very drought tolerant once it's settled in. It gets huge, like 10-15 ft tall, but it makes a nice privacy fence. Enjoy all your new babies!
