wanted- Ivory Soap Plant

Albemarle, NC(Zone 7b)

Have any of you ever seen or have an Ivory Soap Plant. When the leaves are rubbed, they smell like Ivory Soap. Please let me know if you have this plant.

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

some say Lemon Balm smells like that...but more lemony lol...does the plant you speak of bloom? if you've seen it how tall?

Albemarle, NC(Zone 7b)

Yes I have seen one of my friends plants. It has green leaves with some white on it, don't think it blooms. I have rubbed the leaf and it smells like Ivory soap. That's what she calls it. Hers is too little to give me a cutting. I want one so bad. I haven't seen hers being tall. It's looks like a little bushy plant now. It didn't smell lemony at all. I do appreciate you getting with me on this.

If no one else replies perhaps you could take a picture - a lot of times it's easier to ID that way :) good luck I hope someone knows what it is for you

Thanks so much. I will get a picture and maybe that will help.

I have also heard that some eucharis and brugs smell like ivory soap, but don't have either, so don't have any personal experience. A brug should be a pretty good sized plant, tho, and should bloom with big flowers blossoms. But a eucharis also blooms, so really don't know. They are related to lilies, I believe.

Dear flower Girl,

If you are still looking. I do have the soap plant. I know I have white, may have pink as well.

Choochoo,
Could you post a picture of the plant so that we can see/know what it looks like?

I heard about this plant a few years ago. It really is supposed to smell like Ivory Soap. Would love to know the name and where you can get the plants. I could never find anything on the internet about it.

I'm curious. What is the actual name of this plant and can we see a picture?

Hixson, TN

Plant is very invasive.Needs to be contained. I believe its called. Soap Wort. Comes in Pink and WhiteYou are suppose to be able to rub leaves. And use like soap. I purchased from Flower Sent Gardens. A great loss as I don't think still in business. Many of my favorite plants today. Came from there.
Are all "wort" plants invasive?

Hey ChooChooGal, thanks for the name. Reading information on this plant actually an herb it is considered a vigorous spreader and recommended to be grown in containers but not as vigorous as a mint. A very interesting plant with some saying it can grow to 3 feet and has a number of uses. I'm not sure if all 'wort' plants are invasive but actual worts can spread and are a pain to get rid of. Hmmm...and no one wants them! lol! I wonder? Spider wort grows wild here in Georgia and if it ever gets in your yard you are in trouble to keep it contained, hence the 'wort'.

I have soapwort, but ve never noticed it smelling like ivory soap. It's quite beautiful, and vigorous, but it hasn't been invasive in my hot, dry yard. It spreads over the years like most plants, but it's well behaved for me.

By the way, Donna, I LOVE spiderwort and have several varieties. Only the common blue variety seems a little more abundant; it drops seeds so it can pop up anywhere. All the other varieties I have are well-behaved. In fact, I have trouble getting some of them to take off.

I don't think flowergirl is talking about soapwort. She said it has green leaves with some white on them. My soapwort doesn't have any white on the leaves.

I did a search on soapwort & it is used like soap & other uses. I only took the invasive from reading, I have no first hand experience. It is certainly an interesting plant.

The common blue spiderwort grows everywhere down here. From first hand experience it is invasive and roundup will not kill it! It reseeds everywhere! It's bad enough I don't want to try growing any other with that name. lol!

I hope flowergirl101 finds the plant she is looking for.
