On our way back from Texas to Georgia , we stopped for a few hours rest at a travel store in Jennings La .
This poor dog came around the van looking for food . I had my four dogs with me and took the food dish and water out and sat it down for him . It was 2:00am and I couldn't go back to sleep , so watched this poor baby follow people out of the store to their car and them just drive off . No pets, just ignore .The poor thing would wander back into the space between the gas pumps and the door to the store looking so confused .This went on for several hours and it was cold that night . I went inside to inquire and found he had just shown up that night and the employees had fed him . He was so pitiful that I couldn't in good conscience leave him there to starve . It took him about three months at least , to get in that shape and I can't understand how anybody could keep passing up this animal without caring if he starved or not .How many people passed him by ,with him following them wagging his tail between his legs and looking up at them so hopeful , only to do it again and again ?
When my D H woke up around 6:00am , I told him the dog wasn't going to stay there and starve , he was coming home with me . I did get resistance , but don't buck my McDonald maiden name . He saw I meant every word and no one was going to tell this woman I couldn't do something .
He was a good traveler and is fattening up a bit in my fenced back yard , in a walk space under my new room built last year .He has hay in a big blue barrel to sleep in . I had picked him up in front of the door to the store , all curled up , trying to stay warm on that cold concrete .
I will find him a new home when he gets prettier and shots . He will make a devoted companion for some lucky person . All he wants to do is wag his tail and beg to be touched . I have four small dogs , a cat and a bird we travel with , so am not able to keep him myself or I would .
