Got to watch my first drama filled episode of Chicken TV last night. Hubby was out in the shed where the brooder is and came tearing up to the front porch where Roomie and I were sitting. Says "You gotta come see the chicks, its great. They've got a June bug. Let me catch another June bug and I'll show you what they are doing."
I headed out to the shed. Hubby catches two more June bugs and follows me into the shed. He throws the two June bugs he caught down into the pen. One of the chicks snatched a June bug in her beak. The others saw what she had and the fun began. A pack of chicks and ducklings chased the first chick around the pen trying to take the bug away from her. Another chick would manage to steal it and then the chase would start all over again. Hilarious. They went on like that for 10 minutes before they got bored and/or tired.

It only gets more fun LOL!
Sounds great!
They are so much fun, aren't they? My girls do that when one of them have caught a mouse, and they play soccer with cherries and grapes.
It is a riot when one has it and all the rest want it...talk about fun. So glad to hear your and hubby are enjoying the kids...LOL...Hay
I love it! And it's not a chick thing. The big girls are just as bad. I give mine scraps so I can watch the fun.
The drama continues.
The ducklings were responsible for a jailbreak last night. At least, that's what the chicks told me. When I went into the shed, there was some very unhappy peeping going on. I looked around and saw the ducklings and two chicks outside of the pen and part of the pen walls knocked down. They looked VERY contrite (at least, they looked contrite to me) and were very grateful when I let them back in their pen. As punishment for the jailbreak, I made them wait for their water and supper while I put the wall back together (it was two minutes, I'm not that cruel) all the while chiding me for being late with their supper in the first place, which they claim was the reason for the jailbreak. When they realized that the big funny looking chick/duck mom was getting their dinner, they settled down and as soon as the water hit their bowl, the peeping stopped.
Isn't it just amazing the ruckus they will make over the smallest things. Sure glad that humans are not that way...Wanna bet...LOL...Hay
LOL!
Our 6 six week old chicks escaped the pen this afternoon and were eating the big girls grower food. The big girls were not happy, but it was 6 against 3 and one of the little ones is a roo! The big mammas just stayed away from the chaos and tried to quietly grow their feathers back in a hurry.
The little ones did not want to go back into the pen and as soon as I'd get 3 in, one or two would escape and then they'd all rush out or in or just all over. I finally opened the top of the pen and plopped them in one at a time when I could catch them. Must have been funny to watch, hopefully no one was!
Sounds a little like a rodeo to me...LOL...I'd love to have seen it all...Hay
Yes, Haystack, it was pretty amusing! I like having the little buggers around for fun. I don't even care about the eggs anymore.
