Does anyone know of employment in the Arlington area for an unskilled worker? Any training programs that might lead to a job?

Good Will hires unskilled workers.

Ok, thanks.

Most of the Cities have a temp labor group they use for services when they don't want to hire full time. A good worker can get a foot in the door and then when openings come along they may get hired.

I need some specifics. I have checked city related things and there appears to be nearly no programs for hiring poor/unskilled people in this area. State office offers little hope as well.

Did you try the Texas Workforce Commission? Skills Development Fund, http://www.twc.state.tx.us/svcs/funds/sdfintro.html

Also, some churches might have some help. I'm not familiar with the Texas community colleges system, but I know other state's community colleges offer help depending on what you might need.

That's all I know.

I contacted the workforce number, not many real options.

I thought maybe you had, but went ahead anyway. The workforce people come around here now and again asking if we have any openings. That's why I thought of them.

Still, you might try the community colleges. I used to work for one and you'd be amazed at what some of them have to offer.

There is a job center in the UTA continuing education center.

Check with places like Mission Arlington over in Arlington. They may know of some places.

Try in the yellow pages under employment services . Then look for an add for temp help . Just stay away from the services that want a portion of your wages , some as long as six months . There are the good ones that are paid by the employer and you still get decent wages . I did it 20 years ago while I was waiting for my license to transfer from Texas to Georgia and the common wage was 9.75 at the different places they sent me , here in Georgia . Pretty good for 20 years ago . I sure hope you well . Please keep us updated .Digger

Um I appreciate your good wishes but thankfully I am employed. There is a young man with a pregnant wife who has a poor work record and very few skills who is now scared and looking for employment. Funny how life events can wake us up to reality.
