Project Hummingbirds Attraction.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Recently I've 2 Ruby-Throat hummingbirds to arrive in the garden. I'm mindful of doing things that may attract and invite them to stay such as putting various nectar feeders, planting flowers that may help guide them to find their refuge for the season to come. My latest addition into the garden, hanging basket with bright color annual. Setting up two wrought Iron trellises for Crossvine to climb on, and a new nectar feeder with perch. There is also Niobe clematis interplanted with the Crossvines.

So far, 2 males arrived, the 1st one arrived on the 25th, the second one yesterday. This is the 1st arrival.

Perching on a Lilac branch, he's so prout he has chased off the other male RT just then. He's sitting guard the feeder to the front of the garden. I'll post more pix in the future as their activities pick up.

The weather has turned cloudy and stormy the last couple of days, I afraid the two (hummingbirds) had moved Southward from here. Noticed another male to the back of the garden checking some tubular flowers.

You've done a wonderful job of building a welcome garden for them Lily. Hope you've got water in a birdbath too. I just put out my tabletop bath and it only took 5 minutes before the hummers were in it.

Thank you Duc, sounds as if the Western hummingbirds need to teach the Eastern ones to relax and let your hair down--so to speak-- to enjoy the bath. lol. So far I only noticed my Carolina Wren immersed into the birdbath to the front of the garden. I've set up that little fountain to the backyard. One that has all the bells and whistles, but no taker as of yet.

My nectar feeders are out of the way, so I don't get see my hummers very often. This morning another male came to the backyard. I couldn't tell what gender it was until a Housefinch arrives then he flew off that was when I saw his Ruby signiture.

The Ruby jewel didn't fly very far. He stopped by and visited this Honeysuckle vines.

Hummers love the honeysuckles. I don't think you'll have to worry about not finding the hummers, once they discover about your garden, I'm sure they'll stick around and bring in others.

I see the hummingbirds daily now. However, difficult to get a pix.

Hello Lily,

Your place, gardens, location is not only a birder's paradise, but a bird's heaven! I can't imagine any bird wanting or needing to leave and migrate any further! Congrats on your newest visitors and may they stay with you all summer long :D

Susan, thank you for such nice thought. I'm very grateful of the beauty of nature each and every day. In fact each and everyday my appreciation of the beauty in nature is growing, I think.

I was given the chance to watch a male Ruby-T hummingbird practically riding on my watering wand Saturday when I was outdoor watering my plants. It was something else. Never have I been touched by nature that way before.

So, I decided to offer those little jewels (I called my hummingbirds) a treat. This cute little 2 oz. nectar feeder that suction-cup to the front window. lol

Whoa! I just turned my springler system back on and the hummer came out to play. No pix op. 'cause the lighting isn't in my favor.

Doesn't matter how bad my day turns out. Once I saw these little jewels, my heart sings. I recently moved a water fountain closer to where the honeysuckles vines are, and the Crossvine in bloom for my hummingbirds. Hope they'll soon find it. Duc, please wish me lucks.

I'll sign off for a while for a storm is going through our region. It's a big system. Those whose path may be on the eye of the storm. Take care, 'til we meet again.

Looks like a nice retreat for the hummers. I don't have a dedicated garden for them, but have several plantings that attract them. I keep some red columbine because it is always in bloom when the first hummers arrive. Their favorite seems to be the Autumn Sage and Desert Willow.

Hello Red, I love those columbine, I've a double-blooming variety in the shade garden. As far as hoping to attract hummingbirds. I add on a little by little over the years, and finally this year I almost reach my goal. Just like I'm learning bit by bit on how to host various birds nesting in the garden. Thanks for your visit.

I just witnessed two hummingbirds chasing each other outdoor. That means they're here and try to establish their own territory. Yes! Earlier during the morning hours. One landed on the feeder above me enabling me to see its beauty in such proximity I couldn't be more pleased. Roughly inches away! Yay!
