Hostas aren't up yet in any of the colder areas. I'm in the same zone as you and mine haven't come up yet.

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

I am in zone 5 b and mine are coming up.
that is strange. Of course it was 75 last week and snowed yesterday. :(
I think hosta should be divided just when they start to sprout, but I am not sure on that. There is a hosta forum on DG. I am sure someone there will know when is the ideal time to divide them.

Thanks you both for your post i really appreciated it..

Do you have a hard time with hostas in the warmer zones??? Lots of time they do not do well because they need the dormant time of winter. Just wondering. I may have some to trade this year want to do lots of moving this summer!!! Will keep an eye on what you are looking for. Ronna

I only have one Hosta and it has done fine so far - no sign of it yet this season. It gets down to 28 degrees here, but the ground/sand doesn't freeze, ever.

I have quite a few hostas and most have done really really well. I try to shy away from the blue ones and stick mostly with the plantagenea types.
