CLOSED: House Finch or Purple?

Memphis, TN

I always had House Finches in the past, but the ones I'm seeing this year have more (and brighter) red plumage. I'd appreciate an ID. Thanks!

Thanks, Duckmother. So far, it's three for three in favor of the HF. I guess I've just got a colorful one this year!

Hi.
It looks like a House Finch. We have tons of them & some are brighter than others. Also, some look Redder & some more Orange-Red.

Maybe they're like people. . . Blond or Brunette, etc.????

I guess that makes sense, in a way. In any case, they sure are pretty.

I hope this gets peaked at even though "closed".

What is in the bucket? I've never seen a feeder like that. We are always looking for new ideas.

Chillybean, I got that tiny bucket at an Arts & Crafts store.

My Cardinals and Finches (I don't have many) really enjoy Safflower seeds but when I put it out in something bigger, Doves will gobble it up before anyone else gets any. It's too expensive for that. This little bucket ensures that only the smaller birds can get to it -- and they are so much fun to watch!

Thanks for your comments.

Thank you for replying. I will be out and about tomorrow, I will look for some of these and get shepherd's hooks. We put safflower on our platform feeder and get house finches and rose-breasted grosbeaks. Our cardinals don't seem to care for the safflower seed, but did come running when I threw a little sunflower and corn out the window. We've had grackle problems, so I am avoiding setting out too much of that right now.
