Most of my Hellebores are now big enough to bloom. So I thought I would give you a show. You are all very welcome to add pictures of your own Hellebores.
Hellebores
I will come back later with more pics the keep disappearing on me.
Holly, I'm sorry your pics are disappearing and hope you figure out what the problem is. Your hellebores are beautiful! I've only begun to expand from the original "nameless" one I got somewhere, sometime, which looks a lot like your #2. It's thriving, and has spread all over the yard. I've since added a double white and a single very dark (almost black) red, which was supposed to be a double white, from... Lowe's! LOL! They're all very young, though, and have only 2 or so stems with blooms at this point.
Holly--
I have 4 Hellebore blooming.....
Unfortunately--since the blooms point down---I cannot get a good picture of them.
You must have laid on your stomach on the ground to take the photos you posted!
If I had to do that--they would have to call 911 to get me back up! Teee...Heee...
Really--WHAT other way couls you get a photo of a Hellebore flower?????
The ground is total MUSH, due to all these rains....I have not been out there in days!
Hope all this rain stops soon--and we get better temperatures than just above freezing.
This is getting ridiculous!!!! It is like winter's days!
Just for fun--here is a close-up, aerial shot of my street.....
My house is the one with the brown roof....NOT much property there!
Now you know what I am talking about.....NO room for anything new.....
If you look closely--just above the long, white garage building--(my back yard neighbor's)
you can, barely, make out the long, dirt bed that I am trying to convert to my raised veggie bed.
Can you see the edging around it a bit???? Nothing happening yet...
Need to find a new someone to do it.
Gita
Here is a more distant, Satellite shot.....
Really gives you the idea that--I REALLY do live in a development....
Again--the house with the brown roof just below the main street you see crossing over
from left to the right....That is Ebenezer Rd.
Again--you cannot miss my back yard neighbor's long garage building.
He had that delivered by some specialized truck from PA.
He had to cut down a large Maple and also remove his side entrance's
wrought iron porch and steps so the delivery truck could slide the huge
shed/garage building right onto his prepared stone and 6x6 edging base
he had labored to erect.
That was a HUGE, HUGE effort on his part....
This is the neighbor I had hoped would build my raised Veggie bed....
But--it just seems he has no time to do it....
Gita
Very nice Holly
Holly--
You always have such nice pictures.....Especially good--as the colors come true..
What kind of a camera do you have?
I am still using my el-cheapo Polaroid digital--it'OK. has all the features one needs...
It has seen me through all the seasons and my trip to Latvia----BUT!
As far as taking photos of flowers--some colors just do not photograph true.
Especially blues and reds...
Been wanting a new one for a long time.....just can't decide which one...
I have 4 Hellebores--all in bloom right now....will try to go out and see if I can get
a picture--ground is sooo wet! I can also use some from last year???
This one is different.....got it in a Swap from someone (out of state) about
4 years ago....Have no idea of it's name!
Will look and see if I can find photos of the others...
Diva, Leave plenty of room around those Helles, I had no idea that they would get as big as they did.
Hey, Holly, Actually, I HAVE found that out, due to the original one - it's HUGE and has seeded around abundantly. I also am probably going to move the dark red one that was supposed to be a double white, since I planted it in a fairly dark spot, thinking the white flowers would show up nicely! Oh well... I love the color, it's just in the wrong place. Hellbores rock, especially since DEER seem to ignore them!!!!
Gita, The camera is a Kodak EasyShare Z612 it was a Christmas present from Ric. He upgraded my old camera a few years ago. Well I don't do bad with flowers but I'm not fast enough for most wildlife shots and my camera doesn't zoom out far enough for some of those wildlife shots either. I think Ric is planing on upgrading me again to something with more distance. But my Familial tremor is getting a bit worse not very noticeable but you can see it in a lot of my pictures. I only post the nicest ones.
Holly--
Funny! But the camera I had before my el-cheapo--was a Kodak Easy Share DX4530.
I still have it--and can use it if I want to.....
The reason I stopped using it was that--the Kodak Easy Share software was very invasive...
It kind of took things over! And--to upload pictures, I had to go to "My Computer"
and do many other annoying steps till I could get them in My Documents....
Then reverse it all to "properly" close it all down....
Finally--my SIL Mark--who is pretty good with computers, gave me this tiny, little "Activa"
port that attaches to my HB Port and I just stick my memory card in it--and--POOF--
it uploads my pictures....bypassing all that "My Computer" stuff....
It is about the size of a Blackberry.....Has two different size openings for Memory cards....
I think it is like $20. And, my SIL got the idea of purchasing it because I sent him the
link from DG "Cameras and Photography" Forum. It was a X-mas gift...
Love it!!!!
Gita
Those are just beautiful.
Gita, Yes we have a lot of glitches with the Kodak software.
Hi Holly! it has been forever since I've posted -- I've missed you guys!
Your hellebores look great! The foliage on mine is very unattractive and tattered (I haven't grown them for very long). Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I don't want to post pictures -- I'd get the ugly plant award!
I cut off all the old tattered foliage. Some it it looked pretty bad from the snow being piled on it and the harsh winter weather. There is new grow coming and removing the old foliage I think will help with the new growth. It is great to hear from you. There are a couple of plant swaps in May. It would be great if you could make it to one of them. I missed you.
happy---How have you been???????
You are NOT doing anything "wrong".....
That ugly, tattered foliage is last year's foliage. It is supposed to look like that!
You can cut all the old leaves away. New foliage will come soon--before the blooming is done...
Snip away!
Holly--we cross-posted......advice!!!
Like minds think alike?
G.
Plant swaps? Yum! I don't think I'd be able to bring anything, but I'd love to visit with you guys!
It would be so nice to see you. You could always brign wood poppies, I know you have a ton of them, I do. LOL
Holly: You are so sweet! I'm just a little short on time, not plants, but I'll try to scrounge up something if I can make it.
Oh Happy !! Don't worry with plants! Just try to come! There's one in May and not TOO far from ya!
They sure are blooming beautifully.
Holly Ann, Those are really nice. I believe this is the third year for mine and two of the three are quite healthy and have many flowers in spite of not being in the best location. I may be able to dig and replant the third, and maybe I should go ahead now since I don't think it will make it until fall. It is a shame that that they face down. Only my kitty can truly appreciate them and she has to get right flat on her belly.
Thanks, Sally. I'm definitely in the "too much on my plate" club these days, but I'd love to come to the swap at least in theory. It'd be great to see you!
