One more 5th look. The first bloom on this plant was so spectacular. The second had more yellow. Then I went away for 2 week where they did not get any fertilizer. The blooms the week after I got home were almost all yellow... HVH fertilizer must work wonders for bloom colors!

Here is The Path. Same goes about the first bloom color compared to the blooms following my vacation. Just plain yellow with a blush of soft pink for the eye.

Roman Candle. Seems to always be the same since it started blooming 2 months ago. A strange thing happens to the stamen. On the second day it bends to the petal. I am not sure if it is a reaction to being pollinated or just that this happens on day 2.... who knows, very interesting though.

Nice photos Kristen. My "Fifth Dimension" seems to have more emphasis on yellow and silver coloration and not so much with pink and orange. It's probably due to out growing conditions being completely different at this time of the year. That is an odd trait you notice with Roman Candle. It must be something genetic within that variety since it happens every time.

Roman Candle is gorgeous!
Can't wait until mine start blooming.

Hello All !

I'm new to hibbies... I just joined my local hibby club... you reference hvh in above thread... is that Hidden Valley Hibiscus? I ordered their fertilizer last year and applied to Five hibbies as following:

one teaspoon per gallon water per week... (after watering with hose)

Ive started this again and wondering if this is too weak of an application....

All my hibbies I'm using this for are in the ground... I've tried to protect them all through the bad winter and had some success and little success depending on location...

any help you can provide is MUCH appreciated !

Hugs,
Mary

Not so computer "smart" as I was 14 yrs. ago when I retired, wrapped up in a small monthly newspaper where we finally got Apple Mac's in the early 1990s. Retirement in 1996 I bought my first MAC w/all the bells & whistles at EXTREME cost of any computer, at that time; and enjoyed for many yrs. the best Graphic Arts programs ever. Than a new I-Mac, then a used
I-Mac as the elder ones began to DIE. Meaning I am not so "with-it" as I was even 5 years ago and to find my way around on my hubby's 2 yr. old PC just to get on my AOL internet with half a brain.

That's a heck of beginning to say, I couldn't find YOU AGAIN (dumb as a stump) to thank you for your response to my adoration of your CT. Hibiscus plant - knowing it would never make it 2/3rd of the way north in VT. Since found a couple "lovelies" that might make it here in zone 4. But not like yours. And also note that Dave's Garden top rated mail-order cats. are always right on as to Zone care. (The crazy cats. of Wesley House, Michigan Bulb, and 100's others drop Zone or up them for all kinds of things we should be very careful of purchasing if a newbie gardener.)

Thanks again for your response; sorry about my "couldn't find you" thankyou. Have a lovely 2011 spring, summer & fall and hope the Nor-Easter coming into Northern N.E. tomorrow night doesn't come down your way & make you as cross as I am about this tough, long winter.
